Building on the success of previous editions, this book continues to provide engineers with a strong understanding of the three primary types of materials and composites, as well as the relationships that exist between the structural elements of materials and their properties. The relationships among processing, structure, properties, and performance components for steels, glass-ceramics, polymer fibers, and silicon semiconductors are explored throughout the chapters. The discussion of the construction of crystallographic directions in hexagonal unit cells is expanded. At the end of each chapter, engineers will also find revised summaries and new equation summaries to reexamine key concepts.
this book will teach you a little something about stress and strain, and the accompanying class will probably let you experience a little bit of those things for yourself, too. not a bad textbook overall, though, and as far as textbooks go, "not bad" is pretty good. plenty of example problems and interesting real-world applications. and pretty pictures. take it to a cute park with a nice chai latte and start romanticizing those phase diagrams!
This book is absolutely amazing. This is my first book I bought when I was in college. All you wanna know about materials science and engineering are listed in this fundamental book.
Starting with the basic principles, like structure and properties of materials to the functional applications of our daily needs. We are now surrounded with many types of materials, just look the things near to yours, your room, your cubicle, your car and etc., it's all about materials.
Materials consists of three fundamental basics, e.i: ceramic, metal and polymer, these is the "raw" materials of which we can find on whatever kind of materials close to us. Shirt consists of polymer materials, Car consists of metals and polymers components, IC chip consists of ceramics and metals components.
I suggest you to buy this book, if only you wanna know more about materials science and engineering.
buku ni tuk student engineering, especially bdk2 materials. sesape bdk materials yg x de buku ni baik la pi cari. bleh bce. pas2 smpn kat atas rak. sbb buku ni berat. dah la tebal. wat short note la kalo sesape yg rajin sgt tu. aku pun x khatam lg. dah 3 thn dah bli buku tu. pas2 dlm die pun cantik. sbb x berusik. wokeh. cukup ah. pape je..
They say this book is like the bible of my major and therefore I do not have any reasons not to 5 stars. Besides, I haven't seen any difficulties understanding the explanations provided in it.
My professor(Prof.A.Sinha of MSME Deptt.) had recommended this Book for my Ph.D Coursework in Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology,Shibpur in this recent semester.Though he was very instrumental in guiding me through his ongoing lectures(mostly from this Callister Book) still I found the Material Science Book very interesting & worth learning.Though I had not read the book wholly I kept it in my store for future references.
hmmm content is super interesting but there is no reason for a matsci textbook to contain this many words. maybe i'm just salty cause we had like 2 giant-ass chapters due every other day though
Materials Science and Engineering: An Introduction by William D. Callister Jr. is the bible for materials science. It's a must have for anyone studying material sciences. Even if you want to learn about solid-state physics, condensed matter physics, or semiconductors, this is a good starting point for those advanced subjects. I have the eighth edition, and luckily I found full solution manuals online, so I solved the problems myself and checked my answers against the solutions. The problems aren't that hard if you carefully reread the material. It starts with atomic structures, bonding, crystalline solids, imperfections in solids, dislocations, etc. If you finish this textbook, you'll have a strong foundation in materials science.
Well whos worse the guy that writes the review or the chump that is reading it right now?
It does not matter. If you are a materials scientist, you should own this book. I don't care how, bookstore, illegally downloaded PDF, tattooed on your dog etc, you get the point.
