One of the worst computer science book I've recently read. It essentially looks like a big advertisement for Azure and Microsoft.
What I liked: - Surprisingly deep paragraph about durable functions. It was the only moment where I felt that the author did the homework and tried to explain the problem inside and out. - The book actually covers the entire Azure spectrum - shallow but wide. It could be useful for someone who would like to familiarize with all the services offered by Azure and doesn't need a deeper context.
What I didn't like: - As ads tend to be, this book highlights only positives. Each chapter has the same pattern: "Azure Xyx is a service for Abc which helps in bulding comprehensive soultions and managing your projects". Bla bla bla, like reading Microsoft documentation (but without technicals...) - Just general marketing knowledge. No practical examples, no real-life use cases, no techical details, no code. - I understand that this is 2024 and most of the readers use electronic devices to read books. However, this is still legal to use a classic, offline, paper version (!). There are still weird characters that do it (me for example). And now, if you have 10 urls redirecting to Microsoft dosc on every page (!!!)... how do you think, does it affect your reading experience in any way? Yes, indeed, this is slightly annoying :)
In the end, I know it has "Fundamentals" in the title. Still, I don't see too much value in publishing such books. There is absolutely nothing new here or explaining why such a thing should be written at all. Two stars in the end.
Fantastic, comprehensive review and explanation of almost all services in Azure, how they work together, how they fit the big picture and how to work with them in practical ways. Logically divided in sections grouping similar services, this book is indispensable companion for everyone wishing to learn the leading cloud platform.
Very high level overview of the Azure Cloud echo system, that gives a novice or non-expert an idea of all the possible facilities that are out there. However it’s just a foundation, beginner book and you should follow the links in the text or other more detailed deep dive books.
This is the reference book to learn about the Azure ecosystems. It contains a lot of references to online resources which help you to find your way in the Azure jungle.
