A dark comedy starring a writer who would honestly rather die than live out an isekai fantasy.
A second life in another world with cute girls by your side and video gamey powers--sounds like a dream, right? Not so for a certain melancholy author, who would quite literally rather drop dead. Honestly, all the fantastical adventure is just getting in the way of his poetic dream of finding the perfect place to die. But no matter how much he risks his hide, everything seems to keep turning out okay. Will our terminally depressed hero find a new lease on life in this cheerfully bleak isekai comedy?
More of a 3.5 star rating; This volume mainly focused on Tama, her backstory, and the rest of the group/party being in her kingdom. I really enjoyed learning so much about Tama since she was a character I almost immediately liked. There was also one of the 7 other-worlders that killed the Demon(Dark) Lord, there attempting to eat up the kingdom. It was immensely entertaining seeing how Dazai managed to confuse this new villain while also helping, not only Tama but also her father get some personal development. I’m very curious going into this next volume since it set up an interesting new arc, along with this volume having a rather funny cliffhanger given the circumstances.
"Your whole life is yours and only yours, alone. All you have to do is to live life the way you imagine it to be." - Hiroshi Noda, Takahiro Wakamatsu (Art), No Longer Allowed in Another World Vol. 3 . 🖤 This time it is about Tama which is Princess Matilda. Sensei had inspired her how to 'write' her own path. Looks like the farthest journey they will go, the more interesting character Sensei could write in his novel. Although he somehow was helping them to fight the villain, he is still devastated that he still couldn't die.
Hooray! It's another volume of everyone's most beloved suicidal isekai weirdo!
...
My experience with Berserk of Gluttony being a completely middling manga (and, I guess, light novel prior to that) yet it getting an anime series means someday down the line, if this somehow goes at least seven or eight volumes, they might go nuts and make an anime of THIS gem as well! (or an OVA, at least)
I don't know how I would feel about that.
On one hand, it's a subject I haven't seen before, where the hero is clinically depressed and actively WANTS to die, possibly taking others with him because he can't envision life being worth keeping, while SOMEHOW not being a completely horrible read. The art is fantastic, too, despite the subject matter (with even all of Japan's favourite lolita costumes).
On the other hand... dude promotes suicide. :/
What I do appreciate is that Sensei (I've forgotten if he actually has a name or if it was given) isn't COMPLETELY one-note. As he demonstrated in the prior volume (which I guess I didn't review yet, oops), he has the heretofore UNIQUE ability to... send "isekai-ed" people like himself BACK to their world... hence the title.
So, you'd think he would do exactly that when another isekai "hero" runs around terrorising the people he was supposed to save? NOPE. Having none of that! In fact, he wants the cannibal hero to eat HIM, just because he'd never entertained the idea before!
No, instead he manages to find a journal for "Tama" from her mother, which encourages her and unlocks her inner strength, because he believes Tama has a compelling story that he would want to write.
You know, unlike the "hero" who ended up having the horrible, horrible life of a completely spoiled rich kid who was bored out of his mind from having his every single need met. So tragic that, instead of finding meaning in his life, he instead went off the rails and started killing people just to try to feel anything.
Why no, I don't have any particular bad feelings toward those afflicted with affluenza who live exactly like the hero in his past life. ¬_¬
...ANYWAY, I still find this series entertaining enough... on an initial read. I doubt I'd be interested in picking the series back up for a re-read once it's finished. It's a solid B series; great on the first go-through, but doesn't hold up to a revisit.
Edit to add: I jinxed it! It's an anime now... and... pretty bad, haha. I don't know if it will pick up as it goes, but we'll see (unless it's TOO cringy).
This was a great volume! Toma’s backstory was so sad, I was literally crying 😭! I’m glad they’re not doing the whole “EVERYONE can be saved and deserves a second chance” thing, cause Kaibara definitely deserved what he got.
