Bass MethodThe critically acclaimed Hal Leonard Electric Bass Method Second Edition in a handy composite edition Contains 3 books and 3 CDs for Levels 1, 2 and 3.
The best bass guitar book I've ever read. Maybe it's because I've studied a lot and, most importantly, I've finally found a teacher, but I still find it very well taught. The exercises are useful and fun. The difficulty level is just right. Other books often overwhelmed me.
I'm not really done but I feel confident in reviewing the text as is: It's a damn fine tool for learning theory and music, not just how to play bass. You start with reading notes and navigating your instrument to move on to more complex ideas and theories.
Cannot complain about it's presentation. Not 5 stars because I'm not grooving like Jaco or Wooten yet (so I'm being petty about my own lack of practice and ability). Also, honestly, I think there should be a few more rhythms to practice for each area to really hammer home some of the note placements on the instrument and reading notes actively.
