School for Virgins by Leda Swann Jack Langton is about to be married to Clarissa, the virginal young daughter of his business partner. Helen Fairchild runs a school for respectable young ladies, where she teaches her young charges how to please their future husbands in bed. The moment Jack accidentally discovers the secret of her school, he wants lessons for himself. Not to learn how to please his future wife, however, but to learn how to please Helen, with whom he is instantly obsessed. Helen reluctantly agrees to take him as a pupil. At first she only wants to take this arrogant man down a peg or two and teach him how to treat a woman properly. But as the lessons progress, she gradually falls in love with him. As Jack's marriage draws ever closer, he falls ever more under Helen's spell. But as a man of honor, he cannot withdraw his promise to Clarissa. Helen's lessons must teach Jack and Clarissa, and Helen herself, to recognize what their hearts truly yearn for before all three of them can find the happiness they crave. I'm going to go out on a limb here..this book wasn't bad--I actually enjoyed (most of) it. It's gotten some bad ratings here at GR, so maybe I'd better explain myself...

In School For Virgins by Leda Swann, the title pretty much says it all. Financier Jack Langton is about to be married to his friend and mentor's daughter. Jack owes a debt he can never repay to this friend who saved him from a life on the London (of the 1800s?) streets and helped him to become a financial success. The friend is now in serious financial trouble, and Jack has offered to marry his young virginal daughter Clarissa to help him out. Jack and Clarissa are acquainted but they've never been more than friends.

Helen Fairchild runs a most unusual school. It's a school for respectable young women, and Helen teaches them about how to please their future husbands...in bed. Helen is scrimping and saving and trying to make her school a success, but she's barely getting by, and is in debt to an old lecherous banker who is trying to manuever her into his bed. Helen decides she needs to pay off this scumbag so she tries to get a loan from Jack. Jack would rather buy into her school (thinking it's sort of a 'finishing school')than give her a loan, and Helen reluctantly agrees to sell him a half share of her school. When sexy Jack stops by unannounced at the school one day, he eavesdrops on one of Helen's lessons, and he's shocked to see the beautiful Helen teaching her pupils (including Clarissa!) how to pleasure a man orally. Say what?

Jack confronts Helen with what he saw and demands that Helen give him some 'lessons' on how to please a woman in bed. Helen agrees, but she has plans. She's going to get him so hot and bothered (with his lessons and the lessons she teaches her pupils) that he will do anything she asks--and she wants her school back! Does Jack stand a chance? Will Jack still want to marry the reluctant Clarissa after carrying on with the seductive Helen? And why is Clarissa so reluctant, hmmm...?

Okay, this is pretty smutty, even though it was fairly well written. I just wish the author spent a little bit more time on the H/h's backstory. All I knew about Helen was that she grew up on the streets, and did everything short of prostitution to get by. Jack had a similar background. Jack and Helen turned out to be one kinky couple (Jack gets bound in a sort of 'dungeon' and Helen gives him a spanking; Jack uses some of Helen's sex toys on her), but I didn't feel that they were 'in love'. Jack was one of those characters who thought with his male member--even though he was hot for Helen and thought he was in love with her and couldn't live without her, he was fantasizing about being with Clarissa and her girlfriend. Don't know if Helen was going to be enough for this guy. Despite some reservations, I was still entertained enough to keep reading. 3 1/2 stars
Warning: This story contains explicit sex (including oral and the use of a sex toy anally) and language; and some f/f action. Not for the faint of heart!

In Seduction Of Colette by Claire Thompson, it's 1658 France, and 18 year old virgin Colette is the daughter of a drunken, gambling duke. Her father 'loses' her in a bet, and she's given to handsome young (26) former womanizer Lord Philippe as payment for his debt. Colette isn't as upset by this turn of events as you would think. Her father has been drunkenly pawing her in bed at night, and often treats her with disdain. And Lord Philippe is handsome and charming, and seems taken with Colette. Initially Philippe's intention is to employ Colette as a companion for his rather nasty old aunt, but then he thinks maybe he would like to give up his old ways, settle down, and make a life with the beautiful, willowy Colette. When he's called away on business for the King, Colette and her young maid (along with his aunt and some servants) are to head to his castle along the northern coast. But then a band of ruffians attacks, killing two of the servants, and taking Colette and her young maid Brigette with them. They are raped, and made to do things that they'd never imagined. When they manage to escape, they make their way back to Philippe. Will he still want Colette now that she's been 'ruined'?

I almost gave up on this one. It was very hard to read the rape scenes. It seemed like they went on and on...of course a rape scene is going to be nasty, but this one was especially nasty because of the way the author described the sights and smells of the rapists. Ugh. If you can get past the rape scenes, the rest of the book is quite good. Actually, Lord Philippe was almost too good to be true. This guy was one pretty enlightened man, for someone from the 1600s. Patient, kind, sexy, rich..I don't know why Colette hesitated about her feelings for him. I was feeling pretty good about her character, thinking her brave after all she went through, but then she almost had a TSTL moment. Lucky for her poor Philippe was mad about her. 3 1/2 stars
Warning: This book contains explicit sex (including oral) and language; a pretty graphic rape scene; and some f/f love. Not for the faint of heart.

Ellora's Cave
Seems to me I'd read something by Claire Thompson that was better... these two stories were a bit disappointing, especially the second one which was a bit neither here nor there.
