Ted Andrews was an internationally recognized author, storyteller, teacher, and mystic. A leader in the human potential, metaphysical, and psychic fields, he wrote over 36 books which have been translated into more than two dozen foreign languages. He was featured on many national and local TV and radio programs every year. He won more Visionary Awards than any other author.

Ted was a worldwide acclaimed speaker and teacher. He presented sold-out seminars to thousands of people throughout the US and Canada every year, and his appearances were just as popular and in demand in the United Kingdom, Europe and parts of Asia. In May 2002 he was specially invited to speak to the UNSRC at the United Nations in New York for his writings and work with animals.

This award-winning and best-selling author was involved in the serious study of the esoteric and occult for more than 40 years, and he brought to the field an extensive formal and informal education. He served the public school system for ten years as a teacher and counselor, 7 of which were spent working with disadvantaged students, creating a special needs reading program for which he received both local and state recognition.

Called a true Renaissance man, Ted was trained in music, playing the piano since the age of 12. He composed, performed and produced the music for ten audiocassettes. He could even scratch out a tune or two on the violin/fiddle. He was a longtime student of sacred dance, ballet and Kung Fu. Ted was also schooled in a variety of related holistic healing modalities, including music therapy, herbology, hypnotherapy, acupressure and other alternative techniques. A clairvoyant since childhood, he was also a certified spiritualist medium for nearly 30 years.

Probably best known for his work with animals, Ted held state and federal permits to work with birds of prey. He performed wildlife rescue and worked in wildlife rehabilitation and education. He conducted animal education and storytelling programs with his animals in school classrooms throughout the year, giving freely of his own time and expense to help young people discover the wonder of animals and nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed hanging out with his menagerie of animals, training and playing with his horses and ballroom dancing.

I genuinely enjoyed this book and found it quite useful at the time I read it when I was just beginning to read such titles.

I would recommend it to any 'new comer' on the topic in conjunction with other similar titles by varying authors (Doreen Virtue, Syliva Browne among others).

The reason for 3 stars instead of 4...
The version I have was from 1992 and had a LOT of grammatical errors as well and poor sentence structure which was very distracting (don't get me wrong in general this is something that doesn't bother me but this one was a bit more than the average).

I read an OLDER version and assume this means it has been greatly improved upon as the writer has written several books since.

I really want to know by what authority Ted Andrews writes all this. I feel that a book offering information about experiential support for his work would be fascinating.

I tend to be an open and trusting person, so I don't dismiss Andrews out of hand. I know very well that the universe is only barely known to us; there is so much we don't understand. Certainly, everything he says may have truth to it in some way. Perhaps we really can contact spirit guides; perhaps we really do each have them with us. I have tried some of his exercises, and I have certainly had success in my own way, but whether I made it all up in my head or not is a mystery to me. Nothing indicated to me that I didn't... Yet how can I know? The information is not provable, nor is it un-provable.

I have moved on from this book since, and I've given up on my spirit guides. If they're with me, they're with me, and they'll contact me if they need to. As for me myself, I'm going to go on living without trying desperately to make them more real for me than they already may be. It seems righteous to me that they would get in touch with me first, and not me with them.

A very interesting book, "How To Meet and Work with Spirit Guides" by Ted Andrews discusses many mythical beings and unseen entities we have come to believe in over thousands of years. Such things as angels, guardian angels, and spirit guides, gnomes, animal spirits, nature spirits, fairies, etc. are comprised into this reading, giving a basic understanding of each and how they function. The author explores ways to communicate with these through meditation, crystals, group meetings, and so on. A bit out there for me but I have never participated in trying to contact anyone from beyond. An interesting read regardless if you are a believer or a skeptic.

Basically I found that while the information at the beginning of the book was really interesting (stuff about the auric body and energies along with discussion about Theosophy), I found the end of the book to drag on because it started discussing angels, nature spirits, animal totems, etc. I can see the validity of connecting with animal totems and even guides that are your protectors. I'm not sure if I believe in things like angels. It doesn't agree with my world view and I find it to be more wishful thinking than anything else. Some of the content of this book was good and other things, I'm not sure that I could agree with Ted Andrews.

- A basic introduction to some spiritual principles, sort of a mishmash of different concepts.
- Nothing too deep...I suppose his other books (such as Animal Speak of which some text was derived), goes into greater detail.

This book is a great introduction into the spirit world and provides great advice on how to connect with it. The author doesn't go into too much depth on anything, it seems more generalised but I do believe this is great for beginners.

I also love how he reminds us to stay connected to and balanced in the physical world, and warns against over relying on spirit guides. The exercises seem intriguing and give a lot more information than other authors I've come across. "Just leave your body🙂" they say... okay, how?! Well, Andrews does actually give some guidance there.

Overall, I think it's a great book that was very eye-opening. I was worried about the relevance as it is an older book (my copy was printed in the year 2000) but it seems to align well with what I've learnt and experienced so far. I'd definitely be open to reading more of his work and generally exploring the ideas around the spirit realm more. If anyone has any suggestions, please throw them my way!

Fantastic .

Ted Andrews writes perfectly. Easy to understand and follow.

The only thing is that I would comment on is that the title is not entirely what the book is about. It also contains a wealth of information including psychic work and healing.

Love the meditations and exercises.

Would highly recommend.

This was the first book I ever read on magic. I recently re-read this book and even reading it many years later, a lot of the material ages well. Some of it would now be considered culturally appropriative, but overall the material is solid and the techniques and practices work. If you’re wanting an introduction to the spirit world this is a good book to read.

An informative books on the subject matter, a great starting place. I’ve read a few of Andrews books and I’ve found them all to have a pleasant and informative tone. I feel the book could’ve gone deeper.

A simple and easy to read beginners guide with some great meditation activities. I learned some things, but a lot of this reinforced what I already realized on my own through my meditations. But it was good confirmation, nonetheless, and I enjoyed the writing style and organization.

There was some helpful info in this book, but then other things that just weren’t. 3 stars for the good info, but I honestly scanned about half of the book for the less useful.

I included this in my review on my blog:

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced spiritual practitioner, How to Meet and Work with Spirit Guides is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to learn more about communicating with spirit guides. Its author, Ted Andrews is a renowned spiritual teacher and author with a clear, concise writing style. Originally published in 1994, he describes spirit guides as benevolent beings who are here to help us by providing guidance, protection, support and healing. He provides step-by-step explanations for meditations, visualizations, and dreamwork. Andrews includes exercises and rituals, all of this to help foster a closer relationship with spirit guides. Andrews also explains the different types of spirit guides and tips on how to communicate with them.

I enjoyed this book and tried some of the exercises, it was the second book by the same author that I read.
Both books were really good at providing an overview of a vast subject.

I first read this book in its original printing, some years ago (the cover was lavender with a much more interesting picture than the one on this current version, but that's neither here nor there). While the information is certainly accurate and usable, the language is often hard to wrap your mind around, and I found it difficult to retain the information for long periods of time (an odd experience for me).

A couple of centering exercises including the middle pillar exercise and the mystic marriage have assisted in my development as an instrument within the frequency of all things. The introductory information in regards to the totem, the auric field, and encounters with outside energies are highly succinct.

First half was interesting, but I thought the second half was a bunch of bull with no basis for truth. Still, it was interesting to see what some people believe and that some people will believe anything...even their own imagination.

A handful of guided meditations -- some of them silly -- surrounded by filler and babble. I found a handful of passages mildly entwining, but there's very little here in the way of real substance.
