The key to psychic development and spiritual healing lies in understanding your aura. The authors explain how to work with the two major types of aura blocks and boundary issues. Combining both Eastern and Western traditions, using a variety of techniques ranging from meditation and breathing exercises to chakra therapy, you'll learn how to get rid of blocks and clarify identity boundaries. With bibliography & index.
short review for busy readers: Not for beginners! Teaches the BPI method invented by Lewis Bostwick and uses materials from the Aesclepion Institute.
short review: I dug this book out of the depths of my library recently during a clean out.
According to the receipt, I bought it at the Arcania Bookshop, 17 Union Passage in Bath, England in June of 2000. Don't remember that, but do remember thumbing through the exercises, trying a few for a while, finding others strange, not getting any results and shelving it.
Well, 2000, that was a quite a while ago, so why not give it another whirl? Here are my thoughts after working with it daily for about 2 and a half weeks...
You know when people who are really, really talented at something try to explain how they do what they do and leave out about 4 steps and 27 years of education because...duh...it's just obvious you'd do that. Why mention it?
That's the reason this book isn't for beginners.
The directions for many of the 'basic' exercises are hard to follow because they're not explained well enough for those who don't already have great clair-whatever abilities.
The long list of instructions for doing any of the later exercises reminds me of those TV chefs who claim "This is a really simple recipe!"...and it has 17 ingredients and takes 3 hours to make. Do this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then this, then this...and NOW start the real exercise.
Even the 'basic' one of running earth/cosmic energy takes a lot of concentration as keeping two divergent flows of energy running simultaneously is like trying to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time. (And other places say the method in this book is not great for you, because it places too much energy in the 1st chakra for too long.)
The tone of the book is very kind and gentle...but then there's the 'destroying' or 'blowing up' or 'blasting' of things with rays shooting out of your crown chakra that really sounds all kinds of guy sci-fi.
Maybe this method isn't for me.
I don't see any pictures in my aura (which I can see), nor does anything 'light up' when hoovering with roses, earth energy doesn't run for me, I can find no 'cords', I don't understand why it has to be a rose and why I need to keep making and destroying so many of them all the time, and whenever I try to run anything through my 3rd eye, I get the worst energy overload pain that feels like I have a volcano erupting in my forehead (that sapphire light? Ouch!).
It seems a number of people got a lot out of this book and I'm glad they did. But I've tried this stuff twice now and it doesn't seem to do (for me) what it claims it will, although I've had success with other methods. An average 2.5 stars.
By far the most useful book of this type that I've read to date. I would go so far as to say invaluable! Easy to read and understand, I found myself taking study notes on only one small section. Simple visualiations and exercises build up a powerful repertoire of practices to become more aware of and/or in control of chakras and auric energy. Whether you are new to psyhcic development or familiar with it and in need of a tune-up, this is a great addition to your bookshelf.
The exact visualisation most frequently given didn't quite sit right for my personal style, but it quickly adjusted to suit and is now a go-to routine. The difference Friedlander and Hemsher's advice and system has made in my control and stability is remarkable.
I should explain, I am a medium who found her clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and claireverythingelse suddenly hugely amplified following a trauma. After three years of stuggle to gain control, I wonder where has this book been all my life!
The authors say at the conclusion "please remember, it is better to be resourceful than to have all sorts of resources." This book is one resource I would recommend to all comers to the psychic arts.
I came across this book in the metaphysical section of the bookstore. For some reason, on the back, it is labeled "self help." I would consider this book more spiritual than anything. At the same time, it is very informationsl and there is a lot to be learned pertaining to the spiritual world.
Overall, if you want to know anything about chakras, auras and how clairvoyance works, I would highly recommend this book to you. Even if you do not believe in psychics or spiritual energy, it is very interesting.
I would also like to mention that the tone is very loving and compassionate. It's not a boring how-to book. It is playfully written and provokes thoughts for leading a more meaningful life.
I devoured this book in a few days... which actually isn't the way to go about it, but it is SO good! Right from the get go the authors teach practical exercises to start working with energy. Although the title may sound sort of woo-woo, this is a very practical guide to life. What I learned from this book helped me in so many ways. I will be savouring it more slowly the second time around.
This is an extremely powerful workbook that can jettison ones efforts to become more psychic, and to aid in healing yourself spiritually. This is not a book to "read" and put on your bookshelf. It needs to be used daily as you practice developing the meditation techniques elaborately described in it's pages. I keep a copy close at hand and refer to it frequently.
This book is one of my all-time favorites. The tone is matter-of-fact yet very soft and gentle, and the information it provides is truly life-changing, invaluable, and feels like the most authentic expression of "humaning".
