As cheesy as the name of the book sounds, I actually really liked it! It was mentioned in a podcast I listen to and it made me feel so understood. I could relate to it a lot. From a Christian’s perspective.

Before reading this review, I pose a question to you from this book.

"...when asked, 'Would you rather go to a party of stay home and read a book?' they [those surveyed] saw partygoing as positive and reading as negative." While this wasn't a surprise to me, it made me wonder why we have this unconscious bias.

Thank you to NetGalley and Revell publishing for this ARC! As someone who has always been an introvert, this book helped me realize that being an introvert is not a bad despite it's negative connotations. Everyone should read this book, especially anyone who manages a team.

My biggest takeaways were that in meetings introverts will likely not speak up, please know this is not because we aren't paying attention or because we are just "too shy", it is because we are processing the information and need time to formulate our responses!

The author’s writing style and content are reflective of his introverted personality. He writes in a sympathetic tone and frequently uses the inclusive pronoun ‘we.’ He understands the unique challenges faced by introverts. Additionally, he can anticipate and address potential questions or doubts a reader may have.

The content is well-organized. In the first section, the author delves into the negative perceptions about introverts and explains how they came to be. He emphasizes that being an introvert is not a hindrance in the workplace. He highlights the unique strengths and qualities an introvert can bring to any team or organization. The second section includes seven strategies referred to as ‘Master Moves’ to help introverts excel at work while remaining true to themselves. This work offers a sort of how-to/business guide for the modern introvert and how said introvert can survive and thrive in the modern workplace. The work starts with the premise that most expect that the most successful people in the modern workplace are those that are extroverts, those that are outgoing and outspoken will be the ones that rule. Yet, this work highlights that this is not the case.

It is not a pure “introverts are this, and extroverts are that and nary shall the two meet.” There are points in the work where the introvert is encouraged to play to their strengths associated with being an introvert, but there are times where the introvert needs to be a bit more expressive/outgoing in certain situations. It is not calling for a significant shift in personalities, but that there is a balance and an individual can be themselves, but mindful of what the situation is and how to manage it.

As a card-carrying introvert, this work spoke to me in a sense. Not all the advice applies in all cases, and it is not for everyone. At times, I have applied the advice/techniques without really thinking about it. Perhaps this work will resonate more with the introvert new to the workplace and wondering how to balance internal tendencies with the modern workplace. Perhaps some aspects will need to account for the modern hybrid system, but it has it place.

For a business-type book, it is a solid read. It is not too checklisty, but it is not too preachy/directive. A solid read really meant for the newer employee. For the person in the workforce for a few decades, perhaps not the greatest read. Maybe some new pointers or a few “ah-ha” moments. Still, it is worth at least one read (but again, geared more towards the newer employee).

Growing up, introverts like me were often told that we needed to open up and be more outgoing. Being an introvert was seen as a problem. Now, introversion isn't seen as a disorder, but as a strength. Dr. Mike Bechtle writes about how introverts can be able to be active in the work force without having to put on a facade and pretend to be like everyone else. The traits that introverts have are not weaknesses and can be utilized to help both the individual and company.

The tips are fairly simple, though it may be difficult to put them into action depending on the work environment. It has gotten better, but there is still a negative view of being an introvert in many areas. The book is aimed at people who work in what I would call a corporate job. It talks about participating in meetings and presentations. However, there are tips that can be used in different settings. It may have been outside of his scope, but I would like to have seen some information about introverts working in smaller businesses and non-corporate jobs. Other than that, I think the book has a lot of useful information about learning to use your traits and skills to be successful in work.

The book is divided into three parts:
- Introverts at Work
- The Seven Master Moves
- Thriving at Work

The book states being an introvert should not be a negative trait, however discusses how these weaknesses can be detrimental to surviving societal expectations. Nonetheless, the book provides suggestions on how to make these weaknesses into strengths and how to make them work in the workplace. It's not clear how unconscious bias and introversion are connected from the introvert's perspective. The book asks hypothetical questions for readers to consider as well as advice, identifying the strengths. There are personal stories to help readers relate to similar scenarios in their own lives and plenty of advice to use introversion to the readers' advantage, particularly in the workplace.

A great book to read and learn from when you have an introverts mind and.personality. I have certainly seen myself in much of this book and can now use the tools I.have picked up to thrive in the workplace. Wish this had been around 20 years ago, really would have.helped!

The Introvert’s Guide to Success in the Workplace by Mike Bechtle was an incredibly eye-opening and affirming read for me as an introvert. I found myself relating deeply to the scenarios and feelings described, and it really made me reflect on the unique strengths I bring to the table, strengths that often go unnoticed or underappreciated in louder, more extroverted environments. The book helped me recognize that I don’t have to change who I am to succeed, but rather, I can thrive by leaning into the qualities that come naturally to me.

What I especially appreciated was how the book challenges the common misconception that extroverts are inherently more successful in the workplace. Bechtle offers plenty of real-world examples and practical insights that show how introverts contribute in powerful, thoughtful, and meaningful ways. It’s not just about fitting in, it’s about understanding your value and learning how to use your voice in a way that’s authentic. I’d definitely recommend this to any introvert looking to feel seen, empowered, and better equipped to navigate their career.
