, حيث أنه قام يتغذيتي بكمية كبيرة من المفردات المزودة بشرح سلس وممتع وجعلها سهلة الفهم راسخه في العقل.
هذا القاموس برفقتي منذ خمس سنوات, ومازلت أتصفحه بلا كلل أو ملل . كل ما اعتقدت اني اخذت كفايتي من هذا المعجم ,وأصبحت أملك مخزون جيد من المفردات ,أجد نفسي مرغما للرجوع إليه , وكأنه يقول لي أنت تعلم القليل وتجهل الكثير لذا فلا غنى لك عني.

A dictionary is the best book anyone can read without tiring for a second. Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary offers much more than just the meanings of words. With its pictorial representations (wherever possible) and numerous examples for each word/phrase/idiom, it provides a thorough understanding of the word in the most easy manner. It also contains various word games which provide an efficient manner for memorizing the words. Also, it contains the diphthongs and monothongs which help the reader in pronunciation of the word.
A must have in everyone's book collections I say. When I was young I used to keep this book at the top of all the other books simply because I loved to read it. And oh boy I read it a lot!! :D With the passing of time, other books have made way up. However, The Oxford Dictionary remains the most frequently read book by me :D (The result of which is that my copy has gone all tattered :P )

This is my first proper monolingual English dictionary. I have always wanted one but they were so expensive.. Well, having registered for Cambridge C2 exam which I will be taking this November, I was forced to finally purchase one. I went for the newest 2020 edition and I can't get enough of it. Especially the bonus parts at the end - Oxford Writing Tutor, Speaking Tutor, Visual Vocabulary Builder and the Grammar section are invaluable for me right now, but at the same time just sitting down and opening it at random and getting lost... Dictionaries really are the best books and you never get bored with them.
Update: I finally took my Cambridge C2 Proficiency exam yesterday. After having to postpone the original November date because of being in quarantine at the time, it was quite a relief. I would not normally put a dictionary among my "read" books but I spent so much time with this one at the expense of reading books of my own choosing that I sort of feel like I deserve it. After more than six months of working with this dictionary on a daily basis, everytime I opened it at random I felt like I already read that particular page and had to flip through it for a while to get to an entry that would actually be new and teach me something. Then of course getting distracted by an entry and following a thread to a different entry and so on can easily mean you do not even blink and suddenly you find out you have been poring over the dictionary for two hours. The tutors at the end were particularly appreciated. A great dictionary, one that I will definitely come back to if I ever want to take another exam or am just writing a thesis or something similar. It also has a mobile phone app that complements the real thing quite nicely.
