A dictionary is the best book anyone can read without tiring for a second. Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary offers much more than just the meanings of words. With its pictorial representations (wherever possible) and numerous examples for each word/phrase/idiom, it provides a thorough understanding of the word in the most easy manner. It also contains various word games which provide an efficient manner for memorizing the words. Also, it contains the diphthongs and monothongs which help the reader in pronunciation of the word. A must have in everyone's book collections I say. When I was young I used to keep this book at the top of all the other books simply because I loved to read it. And oh boy I read it a lot!! :D With the passing of time, other books have made way up. However, The Oxford Dictionary remains the most frequently read book by me :D (The result of which is that my copy has gone all tattered :P ) Hey... if you use any other dictionary... chuck it! and get yourself The Oxford Dictionary :D
*** USING THIS TO CONTINUE MY REVIEW REACTION OF "I Want to Kiss You in Public" by Zelda French. ***
I'm on page 110. They're doing a little movie date night at this cute little cinema.
L’Epee de Bois looks nice. I love how small it is, you would never guess it's a cinema when you look at the small entrance.
It's so cute that this is like a date night at the cinema.
Louis wondering what they're becoming to each other and if he's the only one feeling this tension between them. Holy shit, as ng Michael if he takes his girlfriend to the movies sometimes is funny af, he really wants to find out Haha.
Nice that he love the movie. Adorable how Michael keeps glancing at him during the movie.
Haha, he's super nervous about what will happen between them tonight.nit good that he keeps denying to himself that he's not gay. AWWSHIT, seeing Michael's dimpled smile making him wish Michael would kiss him. All the denial vanishing.
Michael slowly moving the topic to Louis girlfriend is funny. So sly, talking about volleyball to Lucie, slowly prodding. Nice to know that Louis thinks he and Lucie aren't special.
WHATTHEFUCK IS LOUIS TALKING ABOUT!? Saying romance is overrated... Umm what the hell do think is going on between you and Michael!? FUCKING NOTICE HOW YOU FEEL SO DIFFERENT BETWEEN LUCIE AND MICHAEL. BITCH! YOU DON'T EVEN WANT ANYONE HANGING OUT WITH MICHAEL. YOU GET SO JEALOUS OF FRANCOIS ADN MICHAEL'S "GIRLFRIEND"
YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ROMANCE.
Oh, so Louis slept with someone last summer but didn't tell Tony or Lucie. I really don't get why this is a big deal, it's not Tony or Lucie's business since he didn't knew her then. Although it's pretty weird that he and Lucie still hasn't had sex yet. Freezing and hiding whenever Lucie touches him... Maybe something bad happened when he slept with that girl???
NOOOO!!! SO MICHAEL REALLY HAS A GIRLFRIEND, ABBY. FUCKSHIT!!! Geez, Louis staying strong, not showing sadness and disappointment in his face when he was talking to Abby.
JESUS H CHRIST, Louis not knowing himself anymore and losing himself within the fantasy he built around him and Michael. THIS FUCKING HURTS.
A one sided love. shit.

130 pages in.
Now he's more in denial that he's gay. So many messy thoughts are running through his mind and all are excuses to say to himself that he's not attracted to Michael. Funny how he organized all his school notes in a binder last night. Good way of taking his mind off Michael. Even showing the binder to Michael for no reason. He's loosing it honestly...
Nice that they got 19/20 on their essay.
Good that he stayed home instead of going to Sacha's party, especially in his state of mind right now. Lmao, Louis thinking how loose Michael will be at the party. DOUBT IT.
Nice that his father saw their essay and said if he continued like that then he'll support hi way to London. Even giving him permission to stay out late tonight.
Funny how he keeps rejecting Lucie on her advances. He really should break up with her. She deserves better.
Oh boy! he's gonna go crash this party to "save" Michael from Sacha. Ohmygod, it's fucking adorable that he's wearing his dad proper shirt and a favorite of his mom.
Holy shit, his sunglasses has disappeared. So hilarious how his imaging Michael becoming looser and looser as the night goes on as he rummages around his room for his sunglasses, hahaha. No sunglasses. Lmao! I like how sarcastic and sassy this old lady he helped truly is, gone is the sweet gramma who aksed him for help.
Awesome she gave her acetate aviators, new fresh look for him. Plus his proper outfit tonight.
Real nice that he's real friends with old lady, Eugenie now.
---
Lmao, on the way to that party, Louis thinking that if Michael will kiss anybody tonight then IT'S SHOULD BE HIM! hahaha.
Haha, Michael miserable and all alone in the corner away from the crowd. I don't know why he's so sad!? Maybe he really did want to hang out with Louis at this party or Abby broke up with her?
Awwmygod! It's special how Michael looked up and immediately smiled seeing Louis going to him and both are wading through the crowd to get to each other.
NOO! THEIR SPECIAL MOMENT IS RUINED BY TONY AND LUCIE. shit. Ah! Michael had his sunglasses. Funny how he drunkenly returned it to him, putting it himself in Louis' shirt pocket.
Good that Tony and Lucie left, Lucie mad at him for not sleeping with her. Oh well... WHATTHEACTUALFUCK IS FRANCOIS' PROBLEM WITH LOUIS!? FUCK OFF!
At least he's alone with Michael again. Although Michael's drunk. Nice that Louis is taking Michael home. Aww, I love how he's taking car of Michael, wrapping his scarf around him and buttoning his coat for him.
I knew it! Michael admitting to Louis he doesn't like parties or people. I found it odd for Michael going to this party.
Love this slow walk how toward Michael's flat. Louis carefully maneuvering him so he doesn't hit any lamppost. Michael clinging to his side.
Michael saying that he wasn't having fun even drunk, not until Louis showed up. He really does like him as a friend.
Oh, so Michael's parents are having problems and maybe wanting to divorce. He chose to come with his mum to Paris.
Aww, Michael resting his head on Louis' shoulder and their holding hands while in the bus way home. Pretty wonderful.
Michael asking him if he came specifically for Michael at the party.
That was a good night. Honestly I'm confused about what Michael's truly feeling. I think he's also confused and is afraid to do anything and I don't think that he'll cheat on Abby.
---
Tony and Lucie confronting him. Being mad that Louis is abandoning them for Michael.
Oh boyo! Now they're both directly confronting Louis about his relationship with Michael. Fuckoff Tony! Saying Louis never was serious about London. Now they're saying that he changed his style and even washed his hair. SO WHAT!?
WHATTHEFUCK!? Tony saying Michael doesn't like Louis because he's trying to change him. TONY! THIS FUCKING LITTLE BITCH HAS THE NERVE TO SAY THIS TO LOUIS. FUCK YOU TONY!!! YOU FUCKING "EDUCATED LOUIS TO YOU SHITTY "ROCKSTAR" WAY. Louis is being true to himself with Michael.
MY FUCKING GOD! I REALLY HATE TONY.
He really should break up with Lucie.
OHMYFUCKINGOD!!! LOUIS CHOSE TONY AND LUCIE. FUCK IT ALL!!! NO FUCKING WORDS.
I'M FUCKING FRUSTRATED. GOD FUCKING DAMMIT.
Louis is a morn for not seeing the flaw in their friendship. How Tony changed everything about him and he fucking forgot how he acted as his true self whenever he was with Michael.
---
168 pages in.
Now he's completely ignoring Michael. Didn't even speak to him and explain. Wow, now you really look like an asshole. They don't even sit together anymore in English literature.
Good that he hates everything and is miserable now.
Real good that he's talking to Miss Eugenie the mess his relationship is with his "friends" and subtly telling her about Michael. Haha, Eugenie giving awful advice, although they're really not advice. She just said the he's the only one who can get himself out of this situation and that his crush will pass by. Heh, either way it's good that he has someone to let it all out to.
Now Tony's not letting him out of his sight. And he's back fully back with Lucie again. Not good that he keeps thinking of Michael when he's with Lucie whenever he sees a plane tree. At least he told her about his first time having sex.
Good that he's actually working hard on his studies and homework so that he can get to London.
Two week break is over. Louis back to his fake self. He's delusional thinking that he'll get over Michael in just two weeks.
I love how excited he is to be called by Paquin to show off his knowledge about Wuthering Heights. Awwshit, Michael asking him if they can to this essay again together. Of course is gonna do it with Lucie...
Don't like seeing Michael's hope vanishing.
Haha, Lucie doing her essay with another friend of hers and now he's stuck with Tony instead. This is gonna be fucking annoying.
Funny how he dreams of Michael some nights.
Not surprised that Tony's not contributing shit to their essay.
Super fucking annoyed how Louis' mind keeps on thinking that he made the right choice, picking Tony and Lucie over Michael. Now he's thinking he's not going to be happy again but it still worth it to be fake with his friends. DELUSIONAL.
Louis now starting realize how stupid Tony is. OHMYFUCKINGOD!!! I FUCKING HATE HOW TONY'S EATING ALL THE TIME. I HOPE HE FUCKING CHOKES ON HIS GUMMY BEARS. Seriously.
At least it's nice to see Michael and Francois diligently working together.
Oooff, Michael saying that he'll never be a Rockstar, because rockstars stay true to themselves. FUCKING GOT HIS ASS!
HOLYSHIT!!? NOW THEY'RE KISSING INSIDE A TOILET STALL! Louis feeling so alive and just na the most important discovery in the history of the universe. Michael. Adorable.
Thank God they're back together again. Telling Michael that he'll call him, assuring him that this is not over and just starting. Fuck that's special.
Also, Wtf happened to Michael's girlfriend. I really don't think that Michael's the type to cheat.
---
Haha, Louis feeling he has been reborn and seeing the world so colorful. The feeling of Michael's lips on his never leaving his mind. LMFAOO! All doubts that he likes Michael, GONE. Hilarious how clear headed he is now, his mind focused on Michael.
Real good how he's confiding with Miss Eugenie about Michael. Love that he bought food and wine and Eugenie prepping it to look like a proper meal. Good that she told him to let Lucie go so that she can moved on. Stupid that Louis decided not to do this, this shit will come back for you.
Kinda funny that they're both cheaters now. Stupid that she keeps lying to Lucie, meeting with Michael instead if her. And Louis keeps worrying about her leaving, being reminded of her mom when she left them last Christmas. Oh she'll definitely leave.
At least he's bong true to himself now.
---
Haha, Louis being disappointed with Michael bringing him to Orlay Museum instead of sowmhere private. Fucking calm down Louis.
I like that Louis is thinking about his sexuality and his like fear of sex with women?? I don't really know, when they saw the "Origin of the World" painting.
Jeez, Louis need to chill out, seeing their date at the Orlay museum as Michael's test for him. To see if he's dumb or something. Although understandable, being 18 and with anxiety.
Love that Michael wants to show him that he can be himself and love what he truly wants without being embarrassed about it. So sad that Louis didn't truly appreciate the museum because he was overthinking that Michael was testing him and shit.
Love their cute little kiss in public in the museum. I like that Louis was the the who kissed him despite his fears. So cute that they're holding hands while walking in the museum.
Oh shit, Sacha's here. Ruined their date. JESUSCHRIST! Louis being so scared that Sacha saw them holding hands. And Michael looking so defeated after he saw how him react like that...
Shit. I'm disappointed with Louis, I thought he made up his mind being with Michael. But I understand his fear of being found out and shit spreading.
Huge difference between thinking of you can do this shit to actual reality.
---
209 pages in. I really hope Michael understands why Louis reacted that way.
My god, Louis internally loosing his shit, worried whether Sacha remembersand registered him and Michael holding hands at the museum.
Good that Lucie is confronting him about not giving her a shit lately.
Thank fucking God Louis finally said something to Lucie and Tony. Finally letting out his anger on them. Both of them are really shit friends honestly. I fucking hated how both of them are so shocked seeing Louis actually study. FUCK THEM BOTH.
Michael's acting so weird, being so nonchalant about everything. It's gotta be that he's mad and frustrated with Louis wanting to hide them.
Oh my god, Louis is just flopping around. His secret of going to London revealed by Francois, now he's saying he's not going.
Michael saying that there's nothing keeping him here... Yikes.
THIS IS A FUCKING MESS. Louis needs to fucking man up and face his shit. HEY! It's just like Miss Eugenie said, that only him can get himself out of his own problems.
--- Good that he's talking to Miss Eugenie again.
JUST FUCKING TELL EUGENIE THE TRUTH ABOUT MICHAEL BEING A DUDE.
Good that he texted Michael that he's sorry. Keep that communication line open.
Oh, so the London thing was just an excuse so that Tony and Lucie pay attention to him and want him to stay. But Tony became encouraging and moving to London outgrew Louis. So he doesn't really want to go to London anymore.
But London became an escape plan for him if things turned to shit for him.
OHMYFUCKINGOD! MISS EUGENIE HAS ALOT OF PATIENCE FOR LOUIS. If I were her I would have smacked Louis by now with how his mind is flopping around so confused. A GOOD SMACK IN THE HEAD WOULD STOP FROM MOVING SO MUCH.
OHSHIT!!! MICHAEL'S HERE. Eugenie has go to know by now that "Doriane" is a dude with hearing Michael's British accent.
Haha, never expected Michael to hang with Miss Eugenie and Louis during one of their talks. Ohmygod, Eugene's gonna notice how different Louis will act with Michael.
It's nice that Michael forgives him and says that it's all right. Haha, I love hwo playful Michael's being with him right now.
Pretty wonderful that the three of them is just chatting about their music taste while drinking wine. Love Eugene's record collection. Michael appreciating them.
Awwww, Louis recognizing this happy moment as it is. Just friends chilling together. TRULY A SPECIAL MOMENT.
Also, thinking about his sexuality, how greatly his feelings differ between Lucie and Michael. How he can't even remember his first time because he was drunk.
Awwshit, truly fucking special how Louis wants to remember every detail if he ever slept with Michael.
Nice that Michael will get to see Louis' room Not his underwear on his desk lmao. Haha, I like his bedsheets with the tiny spaceship pattern on it.
So Michael's father is visiting. He's got them two tickets to the Opera. NICE! Oh my...it's so sad to see Michael full of weak hope, wanting his parents back together again.
Nooo, Michael's really gonna go back to London. They really should talk about them. And what the fuck happened to Abby!?
So they're just gonna be a secret because they both know that they're be separating soon. FUCK THAT SHIT. At least he set on breaking up with Lucie, finally recognizing they're not a good match. Oh, so Abby is Michael's ex and they're good friends now. I KNEW MICHAEL WASN'T THE TYPE TO CHEAT!
Adorable how Michael fell for him the first time they met at the toilet stall. Seeing Louis for the first time in the mirror and thinking how hot he was and looked liked he has seen and done it all. Haha so far from reality.
Aww, I love how all of Louis' fears, doubts and anxiety fades away when Michael explored his body. Love how calming this first experience is for Louis.
Oof, his father might have heard them. Haha, Michael and his father obviously talking in code.
His dad definitely knows and is OK with it. Based on him wanting Louis to tell him.
---
247 pages in.
Shit, here goes Louis' anxiety again. Questioning himself if he was good when he was going down on Michael. Also worrying that Michael would loose interest in him when they can't see each other while his dad is here for the week and because he thinks he's not good at sex.
Again, I love that Louis overcomes his anxiety to sneak kisses to Michael out in public.
Tony keeps saying that Michael's boring and that perhaps that he also made Louis boring now too. THANK FUCKING GOD LOUIS IS STANDING UP FOR MICHAEL! Talking back to Tony. A saying he always shit in other people for no reason.
Whatthefuck does Tony mean that Louis ruined Francois' coming out?
Wow, Tony showing his true colors by saying that Louis will come running back to him once Michael's done with him.
Garbage friend right there. Someone who just waits for your downfall isn't worth it.
I FUCKING HATE SO MUCH HOW TONY THINKS HE'S THE BETTER FRIEND. DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE DAMAGE HE DID TO LOUIS WITH HIS INFLUENCE AND FAKE ATTITUDE. FUCKTARD! You don't need someone fake like Tony in your life.
Not good that he thinks his truly alone now. Louis needs to overcome his issues being alone, needs to learn that faking it with fake friends isn't worth it. You'll find genuine people who you can vibe with once you accept yourself.
So confused when did Louis outed Francois, they seemed okay at the party when Louis gave him weed.
---
Nice that he's talking to Miss Eugenie again, a genuine friend. I really think that the best shit that Louis can do right now is let things cool down. Work on himself first and then apologize to people.
Love this April afternoon walk his doing. It's good that he's not apologizing to Tony, knowing how much of an ass hole he is and how he talks about Michael behind his back. Fuck that guy.
Nice that he's taking the opportunity to finally talk to Francois about his problem with him. HUGE STEP TO FIXING THIS MESS. Real curious about this. Also it's good that Francois ' father is making him get a real job. Oooh, so Louis said that he didn't need to hear it when Francois was coming out to his friends. And Francois took it as Louis not caring about him and ruined his coming out.
Ohshit, Francois knows about them and told Sacha to not tell everyone that she saw them at the museum together. Francois' a good person not letting his anger towards Louis ruin his coming out.
Funny how Francois knows that Louis is faking it.
WHATTHEFUCK!? Louis and Francois made out during Sacha's new year party!? Well. But after this he said he wasn't gay and got back with Lucie and Tony after. He was drunk and high, makes sense he doesn't remember. Now Francois' mad because Michael stole Louis from him...
This is a fucking mess. JESUS H CHRIST.
At least it's all out now between these two. Fucked up that Louis said "it's nice to be honest" before they make out in the bathroom at the new years party.
Good that he didn't event talk talk to Lucie and to y when he saw them all friendly in the pub together. WHATEVER, LET THEM DO THEIR SHIT.
This is my first proper monolingual English dictionary. I have always wanted one but they were so expensive.. Well, having registered for Cambridge C2 exam which I will be taking this November, I was forced to finally purchase one. I went for the newest 2020 edition and I can't get enough of it. Especially the bonus parts at the end - Oxford Writing Tutor, Speaking Tutor, Visual Vocabulary Builder and the Grammar section are invaluable for me right now, but at the same time just sitting down and opening it at random and getting lost... Dictionaries really are the best books and you never get bored with them.
Update: I finally took my Cambridge C2 Proficiency exam yesterday. After having to postpone the original November date because of being in quarantine at the time, it was quite a relief. I would not normally put a dictionary among my "read" books but I spent so much time with this one at the expense of reading books of my own choosing that I sort of feel like I deserve it. After more than six months of working with this dictionary on a daily basis, everytime I opened it at random I felt like I already read that particular page and had to flip through it for a while to get to an entry that would actually be new and teach me something. Then of course getting distracted by an entry and following a thread to a different entry and so on can easily mean you do not even blink and suddenly you find out you have been poring over the dictionary for two hours. The tutors at the end were particularly appreciated. A great dictionary, one that I will definitely come back to if I ever want to take another exam or am just writing a thesis or something similar. It also has a mobile phone app that complements the real thing quite nicely.
Description: Developed by leading scholars of the English language, this dictionary is a valuable resource for word definition and usage.
Content/Scope: Word definitions are detailed in multi-colored arrangements for easier access to entries. At more than 1700 pages, most words in the English language are contained herein including idioms, phrasal verbs, and proper usage.
Accuracy/Authority: This book has received mostly positive reviews by reputable review sources.
Arrangement/Presentation: Entries are arranged alphabetically for easy access and reference.
Timeliness/Permanence: This reference book was published in 2010, so its content and relevance will change little in the future. New hard copy editions become available regularly and updates will be necessary.
Cost: $30.75
Rational for Selection: This dictionary is very appropriate for high school students, as not only a reference resource, but also for expansion of vocabulary.
There is no introduction or explanation of how this dictionary works. I have yet to figure out how to even look up a word. I will be seeking a refund and return the book
I like the Detailed and comprehensive definition, and examples illustrated for each word. Suggestion: It would be more useful if it has pronunciation the word and probably a easier way for people to generate a word list
Good dictionary better than I expected, typically it’s a excellent tool book for English learners that l definitely will recommend this to everyone I know.
Can't really read this thing, but it has been my trusty companion since 2011. Best 40£ (bought this dictionary when I was in high school) I've ever spent.
meditation Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind and/or induces a mode of consciousness to realize some benefit,[1] although it can be argued that meditation is a goal in and of itself.[2]
The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices (much like the term sports), which range from techniques designed to promote relaxation, contacting spiritual guides, building internal energy (chi, ki, prana, etc.), receiving psychic visions, getting closer to God, seeing past lives, taking astral journeys, and so forth, to more technical exercises targeted at developing compassion,[3] love, patience, generosity, forgiveness and more far-reaching goals such as effortlessly sustained single-pointed concentration,[4] single-pointed analysis,[5] and an indestructible sense of well-being while engaging in any and all of life's activities. Thus, it is essential to be specific about the type of meditation practice under investigation.
Failure to make such distinctions would be akin to the use of the word 'sport' to refer to all sports as if they were essentially the same. For example, the overly generic description of meditation as a mere relaxation technique becomes problematic when one attends to the details of many practices. In contrast, we should think about the term "Meditation" as referring to several neighborhoods of New Age practices, shamanistic lucid dreaming and astral journeying, theistic-concentration meditations (clinging to god, Gnosis), contemplation, visualization, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, chakra clearing, kundalini, breathing exercises, training of single-pointed attention, training in mindfulness, training in single-pointed analysis, vision questing, chi building exercises, and so on, developed for various ends."[6][7]
Meditation often involves an internal effort to self-regulate the mind in some way. It may be done sitting, or in an active way, for instance Buddhist monks involve awareness in their day-to-day activities as a form of mind-training. Prayer beads or other ritual objects are commonly used during meditation in order to keep track of or remind the practitioner about some aspect of the training. Meditation may involve generating an emotional state for the purpose of analyzing that state — such as anger, hatred, etc. — or cultivating particular mental response to various phenomena, such as compassion. The term "meditation" can refer to the state itself, as well as to practices or techniques employed to cultivate the state.[8] In brief, there are dozens of specific styles of meditation practice;[7] the word meditation may carry different meanings in different contexts. Meditation has been practiced since antiquity as a component of numerous religious traditions and beliefs. essential part of an organism is a part which the organism cannot live or reproduce without, one that the organism cannot produce by itself,a Canadian a cappella group formed in 1993 substitute one that takes the place of another, two goods are substitutes in demand if, when the market price of the first good rises, the price of the second good also rises, and vice-versa,The Substitute is a 1996 action-crime-thriller film directed by Robert Mandel and starring Tom Berenger, Ernie Hudson, Marc Anthony, William Forsythe, Raymond Cruz, and Luis Guzmán.
