I Am the
Ed Kennedy is an underage cabdriver without much of a future. He's pathetic at playing cards, hopelessly in love with his best friend, Audrey, and utterly devoted to his coffee-drinking dog, the Doorman. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery. That's when the first ace arrives in the mail. That's when Ed becomes the messenger. Chosen to care, he makes his way through town helping and hurting (when necessary) until only one question Who's behind Ed's mission?

The Book
Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement. In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.

Don't let the young adult category fool you. This book is for all ages. My middle school age child picked it up at a book fair. Because it stated that it had some mature themes, I decided to read it first so that I could answer any questions he may have when he read it. Yes, there is some violence, death, a suicide, as well as abuse ( as a WW2 story, I feel that's a given), but it was extremely well written and a wonderful story. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Wow. Death doesn’t tell very interesting stories I guess.
Literally the whole book was written from deaths perspective. It’s a little depressing. It was also boreing. Not much happened at all and the writing was like adult style while the story was like meant for a little kid who had a lot of time on their hands. I honestly don’t think it’s good storytelling. The book theif I mean. It’s the same author either way though.
