What could make for a better evening than Dinner and a Movie ? How about a Classic Horror Film and a Classic Recipe to pair it with? This is the world’s only cookbook based on the classic Universal Monsters; the series of horror films that were primarily produced by Universal Pictures from the 1920s through the 1950s. For countless fans of horror, nothing can compare to the iconic black-and-white films released by Universal during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Classics like “Dracula”, “Frankenstein”, “The Mummy”, “The Wolf Man”, and “Creature From the Black Lagoon” are timeless incarnations of the silver screen, each with their own unique backstory, ambiance, and appeal. Equally iconic were those in front of and behind the camera – the producers, directors, performers, artists, and technicians who brought these horror stories and characters to life. So what could be better than relaxing in your favorite chair in front of the television and enjoying your beloved Universal Monster movie? How about pairing it with a delicious, easy to make meal for yourself and your guests? After all, there’s nothing like watching “Frankenstein” while relishing a dish of Frankenstein Fusilli with Arugula ! Or how about a cozy evening with “The Wolf Man” while sharing a Werewolf Wild Pizza ? But no matter which Classic Horror Film or Classic Cuisine you choose to pair it with, you can’t go wrong with this fun and informative cookbook! Not only does this publication contain the summaries, backstories, trivia, and photos of your favorite Universal horror films, monsters, and stars, but it offers 64 of the most delicious meals, entrees, and appetizers you’ll ever sink your fangs into. Each recipe is complete with a full list of ingredients and simple-to-follow directions. Make and enjoy enchanting dishes like Boris’ BBQ Brisket, Lugosi’s Hungarian Paprikash, Full Moon Mostaccioli, The Creature’s Seawater Crab Cakes, The Mummy’s Tomb Tanna Leaf Tilapia, and Werewolf of London Broil . As they say in Transylvania . . . Bone Appétit! Large 8 x 10 book, 250 pages, 340 photos and graphics.
This is one of my go-to cookbooks for meals at my house. The trivia about monster movies and horror icons makes it a fun read. Only two things that keep it from being a 5 star is there is no index besides the table of contents in the front, and some of the recipes don't make sense with their assigned Monsters. Other than that, I highly recommend this book for classic monster movie fans.
