This is a tachnical Manual used in an entomology class I took way back when.

This is an excellent entomology textbook with chapters on each of the major orders of insects. Unlikes birds and plants, I find that I am often fortunate to be able to identify insects to the level of order, and rarely to genus and species (perhaps except for some of the more common groups of butterflies (Lepidoptera) and dragonflies (Odonata).
