No.
If this is one of the best textbooks for OB/GYN then let’s mourn together. This textbook was just ugh. First of all, if you say it was made for students then _freaking make it for students_. Why does it read like a consultant writing an essay for a conference? Does that make no sense? Exactly. It’s this freaking book.
I think I read basically every chapter in the book, I’m not the sharpest nail in the box or whatever the freaking idiom is, but I know I can understand an average-level textbook for an average-level specialty. (Average level being all my 1 am brain can come up for “not that hard”). This freaking book. WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME. I had to spend EXTRA time I DONT HAVE to understand basic ideas. Also, basic ideas? None of em in here. They dive into the details so freaking fast you drown in them, and then when you finish after a lifetime you realize the core principles of OB/GYN are lost in you, you have no idea what they are.
KAU students, I know this is the designated book for the rotation, (and probably 0 of you are reading this, and even less of you are crazy enough to actually consider reading a textbook KAU chose for the syllabus) but for your sake find some other resource. Any other resource.

I read--and highlighted--this cover to cover for my Ob-Gyn rotation in medical school. The 1986 edition has a durable blue cover with yellow lettering. It's sprinkled with black and white photographs and medical illustrations. It was about the right amount of information for a six week rotation. I'm giving it four stars because I did very well on the final exam. My final grade, I believe, was modified because I had the temerity to ask if there was something a little longer than the vinyl love seat in the decommissioned nursing station to curl up on between deliveries. I did not go into ob-gyn, but I enjoyed learning about teratomas with teeth and hair and invasive moles. The rotation was so memorable that it was the jumping off point for my novel, Doctor Spight.

Simply astonishing. I was surprised how easy can this field of medicine be understood.

read parts of this book for my OBGYN rotation, concise but not appropriate for the time frame, will get back to it next year.

My obs gyne course was structured around this text, so it was a fairly useful resource for keeping up with lectures and getting a sense of the overall flow of the course.
The information is organized pretty well and it was at a good level for a pre-clerk course. I used it frequently during pre-clerkship but didn't use it at all during my clinical rotation in obs gyne (I found Blueprints much more helpful).
I did use the online access code for the electronic version of the book. It was a little more user-friendly than the hard copy as it is easier to search for information, but the content itself wasn't any different.
I don't have an interest in obs gyne so I can't see myself using this book again but it might be a better investment for someone who wants to do either obs gyne or family med with obstetrics.

Awful reference for an awful specialty.
