One's opinion is one's own and all, but are you really trying to say that The Stand (page length: 1152) is better than Swan Song (page length: 864) because Swan song was too long?
The Stand is better written and a better story. The opening explains the cause behind the events of the story and it is better written. JMO of course. Swan Song is 864 pages but could have been cut by 200 pages. Too many escapes from "hopeless" situations and too much time wasted with repetitive descriptions of people effected by radiation. I admit I did really like the end (last 50 pages) of Swan Song. Very well done.
It's funny, I would say almost exactly the same thing about the Stand (that it could, and in fact did in it's initial publication, cut hundreds of pages). We are at least in agreement about the ending of Swan Song :)
