I hate when things are thrown in for no purpose to the story other than give red herrings. The thing people overheard Ben saying in the park as well as the small story line would be that thing. But the killing of Hope to me points that he is at least guilty of one murder. Because if "killing Hope" or "Hope is dead" isn't anywhere near subtle. She wasn't a Heather or a Sarah, she was Hope.
