Erica Pilon I couldn't remember who the KGB character was at the end who quipped "round up the usual suspects." I knew there was a connection to The Count but I couldn't remember how. Then your comment "Osip is the key" made sense. Thank you for connecting the dots for me!

DMW1 It was because of that line "round up the usual suspects' that I knew Osip had no intention of ever looking for Rostov. In the movie - of which I've watched a few times and love - when Captain Renault says that, Rick (play by Bogart) has already left. Loved the connection and the connotation of what would not happen.

Rita I so agree with you, Christy. The count really no longer counted to the Kremlin and Osip was giving him his blessing.

Deana My two favorite quotes from the book---Osip saying "Round up the usual suspects!" and the final words of the book, "And there, the willowy woman waited."

Joselyn Harris That is how I read it. Hope we were right.

Beth I agree! Osip had no intention of following him. But I love all the discussions and opinions.
