I think that's a great way to think about the subplot. The whole time I thought that it was insignificant to Aza's struggle but it actually forces her to notice what she usually overlooks in her life.

I totally agree. I think her OCD affects her to the extent that she basically doesn't have agency over herself, and that constant conflict impacts the other storylines.
