Chad An interesting interpretation....what did you base it on? Are there Hemmingway quotes out there to support this notion?

John The words "moveable holidays" do have this meaning, but I think it's fairly obvious to anybody who has read Hemingway that he did not have this meaning in mind. Of course the meaning was familiar to him, and he some wordplay was intentional, but there is nothing religious about this book.

Chad I didn't think so either, which is why I asked the question above in reference to this original poster's statement. I found it interesting that two people referenced feast days in answer to my question...I almost began to wonder if there was something that Hemm said that I didn't know!

Erin WV Using a religious term is not equivalent to making a comment on religion, or to writing a religious text. The term may have been used by Hemingway for its symbolic value.
