Maybe a lot of character's names aren't real. In Mara's letter in the beginning of book 1, she says "my lawyer told me I had to choose something, a pseudonym, a nom de plume, for all of us studying for the SATs." So, maybe Noah and Jamie and whoever else is Mara's age and could be studying for the SATs are given aliases by Mara in her story.
