I totally agree. Although I haven't read Kincaid, the Plum series is driving me nuts. Evanovich has done nothing to change Stephanie at all - she is pretty much the same character, same misadventures as the first book. I wonder what kind of book sales plummet has occurred - maybe that would clue her in?
The only thing that changes in the Plum books is the mystery. It only leaves me with the feeling that the author cares more about $$$$ than the readers.
Lol, Notorious Nineteen is #1 on New York Times Best Sellers list (Hardcover Fiction). A long series where the character never develops is just fluff reading - but some people (obviously a lot of people!!) like it!! So I don't think it is fair to say she doesn't care about readers - people are buying it!!
Perhaps you're right Mallory. I noticed too that it's on the NY Best Sellers list, but there are also a lot of negative reviews and they all make the same point.
But seriously, I personally don't understand how people can like or even love a character that does not grow, where the action doesn't change, where she goes between men, not deciding who she wants to be with, etc. by book 19. I mean how many cars have to blow up? No insurance company, even in the fake world, would give her any. That's just me but still... I lost interest around book 9, and yes, I did read a couple more after but then gave up for good. But I guess that's why I love reading books and this site because of all the discussions one can have.
I am delighted to know I am not the only one who is flustered and tired of the once fun, now same old characters. I agree...I love what Pam said about ending on a high note. I would like Stephanie to fall madly in love and
marry someone, Have some adorable children and live happily ever after. Whether it is to Morelli or Ranger- Just do it.

I think that if the series came to end, Stephanie getting married would not be such a big deal. I mean she's been going back and forth between the two; lives on and off with one - where's the surprise? Shock? I think it's too late to try to end it on a "high note."
I've actually only read the first three. How far should I bother with? I've read one of the "Spying in High Heels" books as well. It's almost the same thing only the main character is even stupider. (I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it!)

I'd say read up to about 9 or 10. They are honestly really great and fun to read. Things definitely heat up between Steph and Ranger. Yum!

I have to agree with the majority of the commentary here... however =D (you knew I was going to say that, right?), she could still finish on a high note. I'd like to see her fall for a third man and be swept completely off her feet, moved to another country (like England, or Australia) perhaps find her going there on a holiday slash bounty hunt for some guy, and meet the newest and final love of her life there.
Then again, thats just how I'd do it.
I have to admit i have read all of them, because of the dumbness too them, but that is my fun read category when i have nothing else to read. I read alot of serious type thriller books mainly like Tami Hoag and the like. I use Janet Evonivich as my between the books reads.
Sookie I got really sick of. She should have stopped around book 8. Stephanie Plum! Love that series! I think she should have her get married or something because the last couple seem to be "stuck". She stil makes me laugh though!
