message 1: by Elias (new)

Elias I agree that there are no people that can make someone else do something and that they made the decision to kill themselves. I do believe that other characters greatly influenced their choices. Without Tybalt, Romeo would not be banned and Juliet would not have to pretend to be dead.

Ayanna Fofana I agree with this statement a hundred percent. Juliet even says in the text "O Romeo, Romeo! Where art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; or if thou wilt not, be but sworn love and I'll no longer be a Capulet." She basically is saying that she wishes that he wasn't a Montague. Her wishing that he wasn't a Montague doesn't even make sense because he is and Juliet still decides to be with him. Maybe it's the thrill of her doing something she is not supposed to or the rebellion she may feel. Romeo and Juliet are from two families that are sworn enemies and they still decide to "love" each other. First off to love someone includes loyalty. So how can Romeo be loyal if he went from thinking Rosaline is the most gorgeous person he's ever seen to seeing Juliet and being automatically in love with her.

m Romeo and Juliet didn't really have much to live for before killing themselves. Juliet was going to be forced to marry Paris (who she didn't love) and Romeo was exiled from his home and could never come back.
