hahaha c'est tots cray
I noticed that you pointed out that "a year had passed." Romeo and Juliet actually takes place from Sunday to Thursday. When Juliet and Romeo met it was Sunday afternoon and when they both committed suicide it was Thursday afternoon. The morning after they met was when they were married.
it is their fault they knew each other for three days and were idiots about it romeo very simply courted Juliet for marriage but no he had to marry her in secret because he lusted after her. this is not a love story but a tale of stupidity. Also when Juliet met romeo she was all but engaged to Paris. One more thing if Juliet was okay with her parents thinking she was dead why couldn't she have just run away to mantua where Romeo was?
If you believe in love at first sight, then the time factor is immediately out of the question. Romeo liked how Juliet looked and therefore approached her. Her teasing/flirtatious comments happened to entice him and they both fell for each other. If they love each other so much that they are ready to give up their wealth, status and name (Act 2 Scene 2 lines 35-58) then Juliet's betrothal to Paris is also irrelevant. To top it all, it is clear that Juliet's parents would disown her if she disobeyed them (Act 3 Scene 5 lines 160-167) so she couldn't have fled to Mantua either. You can't just tout one of the greatest plays of all time stupidity if you haven't even read the play properly!
I agree with you, it was Romeo and Juliet's choice to kill themselves for "love." Romeo claimed to be deeply in love with Juliet even when they just met. As for Juliet, I believe she "fell in love" with Romeo, out of teenage rebellion. Her dad was forcing her to marry Paris, whom she didn't even know so reasonably, she looked for someone else. Perhaps Romeo and Juliet never really were in love because they just met. Maybe they wanted to be in love so badly to weaken their families' rivalry and when Romeo saw that he couldn't do that, he killed himself and so did Juliet.
I agree with your review and perspective stated here. Just as you stated, they decided to end their own lives, it was their own decision, not anybody else's. This ties to the suggestion that they both gave up too soon and mad e the decision to commit suicide.
I get what you're saying, but it wasn't just them encouraging a forbidden love. Both were encouraged by Juliet's Nurse. Even when she switched sides, she caused Juliet to drink the potion, which ultimately caused the deaths of Juliet and Romeo.
I agree with you. I think it was their fault for falling in love too quick. It was also their own decision whether or not they wanted to live or die.
I agree with your statement. Romeo and Juliet both already knew that their love was in trouble the moment they started to love one another. It was their blindfolded love that caused them both to commit suicide. However, like you said, they both made the decision way to fast. This is not just because they knew each other only for a short amount of time, but because Romeo did not even make sure that Juliet was dead, he just killed himself, ultimately causing the death of Juliet in the end as well. Moreover, I think that it was not the couple who was responsible for their deaths, but more of just Romeo being responsible for the death of them both.
