Robin I've heard Martin has a lot of health problems that get in the way of his writing. Additionally, different authors write at different paces - writing is a creative process, not a fixed process. It's quite presumptuous to expect any author to go by your personal feelings on what the timeline of writing and publication should be. I'm sure Martin is neither toying with us nor just being lazy so if you don't want to wait this long in between books and you think they aren't even that good to begin with, here's a thought: don't read them.

Brandon Another thing to consider, Robert Jordan wrote TWOF and that's it. He never wrote or focused on any other book or series. He also had a team of 5 people (one being his wife) that helped him along. GRRM not only is writing this with no external help, but he also has a plethora of side projects. Game of Thrones is simply not GRRM's entire life focus. If you read his blog, you can see that he spends a ton of time writing short stories, editing novels, running his mini theatre in Santa Fe etc. Simply put, Jordan had AWOT and that was it. GRRM has many, many other interests and endeavors that he deals with. AWOW is simply not GRRM's life focus.

Hogenmogen Jordan was a mediocre author, caught in adolescent writing and overly concerned with what his characters were wearing and how no one ever seemed to tire of grousing about the opposite gender.

Gary I've been here before. Reading a series as it is being written. I had convinced myself not to start reading another series until it was DONE. But here I am again. Perhaps I should wait until RR says it's done...and then start over.
