At first I also thought this was true. I thought that Jacob was disturbed and inappropriately titillated by the murder, but not guilty. Then the trial showed him he potentially could have gotten away with murder. So he tried it. Incidentally, I found the psychiatrist's assessment of Jacob to be the least damn and the most illustrative of junk science. However, the revelation that the pedo's confession had been coerced by a thug made me believe Jacob was actually guilty. Right place (the park), at the right time, motive (Ben was a bully of sorts to him). And he did have blood on him and he did own the right sort of weapon. Though he didn't have much blood on him, it is a bit odd that he showed up at school the morning of the murder after having been in the park at the same time with some blood on him (didn't he have to change his shirt or something? Can't quite remember the details, but he arrived with some blood on him and someone noticed.
I don't think he was guilty of either. He was not a narcissist He hurt his finger nails to cause himself pain and he did not flee to Australia when he learned that his parents would be ruined financially. All they had was circumstantial evidence. Hope drowned herself and cut her neck on rock or her ex boyfriend killed her. Not guilty until proven with hard evidence!
Interesting view points. I never thought to consider him guilty of one but not the other. Definitely something to think about!
