Ivan Combining msytery and sci fi is difficult as the author has to think of plausible science fiction stories that hook the read into an unfolding narritive around a mystery. Not too quickly and whereby the mystery developes (in the case of sci fi) an imaginative set of sci fi possibilities for the reader; the reader becomes engaged in solving the mystery, discounting possibilities and eventually being rewarded with the mystery's solution. This is a skill Asimov deployed in his robot series and James P Hogan does witheven more imagination with his Giant's series.

Steven Burt One thing that is difficult for an author of science fiction (like time travel) is NOT using one particular scientific trope to solve all the problems of the mystery directly. It doesn't make for much mystery that way unless the solutions create new mysteries for your protagonist to solve on his/her own.
