No matter what, it's not easy with all the new books coming out each day. But don't give up - you never know what's going to happen. All the best!

My name is JR Gibson and I have created a series of fairy tales called "A Collection of Fantastical Fanciful Fairy Tales". Promoting and marketing has been very hard, because I don't have social media, or a website, and am reluctant to spend money on paid advertising. I hope that Goodreads can help me with this.
What advice would you recommend?

Most public libraries provide entire sections containing books, periodicals, and contact information of literary marketers, consultants, and programs that have established well-documented histories, track records, and recommendations from well-known, commercially successful authors.
The time, effort, and resources expended before making contact will help a novice author avoid scams or advice from someone who may not actually be qualified to provide it.
Very few actually achieve commercial success or even notoriety within this extremely competitive field. That said; some have. There is no reason why you may not eventually become one of them. I wish you success!

Hi Vincent.
I'm late to the party as usual. I'm interested. My book, The Smallest War, is in ARC at the moment so I would like to learn more about marketing.

Mark

Hello there ,
Its really very disappointing when we get no sale .. :(
I understand that's why we have plan (free) in which we buy each other's book spread them , read , review , also we promote it on social media and all this happens through this shelf https://saptturangshelf.godaddysites.com

Thank you for the information. I'll make sure I do.

a) badgering people who are facebook contacts to send me their
emails
b) spending 90% of my day working on marketing
c) spending lots of money I don't have on materials such as
bookmarks, posters, advertisements(printed or online) and
d) doing giveaways
None of which have given me enough sales to generate a cheque from Amazon or anywhere else I've put my books online. The only money I've recieved for my work is from the local bookshop and the library.
Is your course/group just about these things, or have you an entirely different take on marketing that's not expensive, doesn't use all my time and doesn't involve arm twisting?
I'm not being anti in any way, it's just that I'm tired of trying to get some sort of money for my work by following so called "guaranteed income" from marketing methods advertised by people online.

What I would suggest is spending what you can in the smartest way possible.
1. Make your work the best it can be. If you know someone who will edit it for free and can do a great job, wonderful. If not, maybe you need to spend some money on editing. That goes for your blurb, too.
2. Get a professional cover. I know a lot of people think they can make their own great covers, but actually only a few can. The cover is a marketing tool. Don't skimp on it.
3. When it comes to actual marketing, you need to build up a platform and engage in marketing activities. Email lists are the way to go. If possible, give away a meaningful freebie (like an actual ebook) in exchange for people's email addresses. Use StoryOrigin to build up your email list through swaps. Use services like Written Word Media's BargainBooksy to get your book out there.
4. Freebies have their place, but I personally don't like giving away my work. I put a lot of time and effort into it, and it's worth something in return. When I give away a book, I ask for something in return, like the customer's email address so I can send them newsletters and keep in touch with them. Otherwise, I sell books. I don't give them away. A lot of people pick up dozens if not hundreds of free books just because they're free, but they never get around to reading them all. There's no point in that. So get something in exchange, even if it's only an email subscription that might later be canceled. At least you have a shot at capturing their attention.
Each of these topics could be expanded upon, but that's the gist of what I know right now. Bear in mind that I'm not rich and famous, either. I'm struggling to get sales, too. I'm not making money yet, but I am getting some readers and, well, tax write-offs, which helps a little. ;-)

I was reading another tread & I noticed that some people take these comments a little personally; I just want to note that I'm not a beta reader, or a cover designer, or anything related to book publishing. All I do is read & review books, and I just wanted to share my opinion on the matter. I hope my comment didn't offend anyone or be taken the wrong way!
Have a great day :)

Mind it help for others is somewhat help for yourself , I being a young author and web developer , marketer ( organic only no paid ) personally felt the same , so we decided to create a platform for author's where at least they can have the satisfaction of being read and reviewed. On https://saptturangshelf.godaddysites.com Author's Community we ask the author to submit contact form and we will buy , read , review also promote yours book but as I said help for help so you will also have to buy , read , review any author's book shown on shelf ( there is none of my benifit if you buy others book the author will get paid not me on the other hand I'll be buying yours )
Its about being a sold author it's not only mine it's yours platform , your community !! Welcome to all ...open for all author remember God help those who help themselves and I believe you all will come to the community if you all are actually author and understand how tough is it to be an author
