Samuel Perhaps I'm a Philistine, but after loving Out Of the Silent Planet and Perelandra, I had trouble with this one. For sure, it was an engaging story, but I missed the theological and cultural points beyond the obvious dystopian storyline. Maybe you could do a blog post on it?

Tyler Smart Samuel the bookening has a 3 part podcast on it.

Daniel I agree with Sam Weaver. After the magnificence of Perelandra, the plot, plot points, and characters were a disappointment. These disappointments were nearly an obstacle (I nearly gave up many times) to the gems regarding: relationships, gender, sexuality, birth control. Valuable material obscured in a forest of tedium.

But I'll be reading Perelandra again and again.

Michael Mayer III I agree the first two books were better but I still really enjoyed the characters and dialogue from That Hideous Strength. Overall a great trilogy that, while it’s been published for nearly 80 years, seems very fresh in a genre of science fiction that largely seems monotonous.

M. I strive to one day be able to write a comment like yours. I just finished my first reading of this book, and I already want to reread it!
