well said!
As you said, from the beginning, you warned that Torpedo Ink would be darker than most of your other series. Bound Together, Sisters of Heart's last book, introduced Viktor Prakenskii and the awful abuse and torture he and his brothers of heart suffered. Of course telling their stories would be dark and intense because that dreadful past made them the adults they are today. We knew from the star that reading their stories would be hard and not for the soft hearted.
There is a reason for why these characters are how they are and why their needs are different. I know Christine puts a huge amount of research into creating characters with realistic psychological profiles, and in this case it is much darker but ultimately understandable if you don't think of it as gratuitous but rather sympathize with why and how. I feel like we get a glimpse into what it must be like to live with trauma through Torpedo Ink especially.
I wonder what it must be like to have to allow yourself to be subjected to secondary trauma in order to write your books. This is not a jab but a realization. The stories in Torpedo Ink are so well written that the research you did must have been difficult. I adopted 5 children and frankly, I exposed myself to their trauma, and let me tell you, it changed me. This is the series that made me a fan and not just curious about your work. Thank you for allowing this series to be written it must have been difficult.
Not all books are for everyone. We as readers need to do our part by researching different series even though we've already read some books by a particular author. When an author tells us that a series is more intense than what they've written previously, believe them. There is no shame in deciding to forego a series but also no need to tell an author that they are wrong for writing it. Just move onto the next book. Thank you Ms. Feehan for the hours of enjoyment that your books have provided me.
