It wouldn't be pro bono editing as such, but if you were to join a forum such as the Science Fiction and Fantasy Chronicles, or Absolute Write to name two, once you have been on for a month or two, put up a ,minimum number of good posts, you can then put up passages for critique - not whole books, but ones where you are struggling. It is also useful, as well as good mannered, to critique others work - it can really hone your editing skills.
Thank you for the prompt response. Five years ago when I published my first book I honestly didn’t know what I was getting into. But over time, I learned a lot of things about writing from readers and writers who gave me advice. I am aware that this is long-term patient learning. I forgot to write that I adore your books and that I am a big fan of yours :)
Thank you, Carro,
I'll look at those sites. My biggest problem is grammatical errors and awkward sentences because I translate from Croatian to English. Sometimes I make mistakes that I don't see.
I would be willing to take it on. I’m a college professor who has worked with international students having troubles getting their writtenEnglish into regular sounding English. I am also bored out of my mind with Covid restrictions so I’d like to take a challenge now. I’ve done beta readings for fantasy novels and editing on academic work such as articles, theses, and dissertations. Best of all, I will do it for free. (Remember - bored, want a challenge.)
