I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe listening to audiobooks could be a good alternative to avoid headaches.
Having a similarly behaving retinal problem (in my right eye) you have my sympathy. Does it help if you increase the font size?
Font size helps -- small print is worse -- and reading off the computer screen is better than either paper or the Kindle. Not sure why.
