That makes sense. That is the kind of character I love to read as well, Miles being the obvious example but with some of your other characters, such as Ivan, also standing out in their own way. It is also a lot of fun when a character like that meets someone so polar opposite of them that they can't help but poke fun, such as when Jim Butcher's Dresden meets up with Hendricks, a hired thug with lots of muscle, few brains, and absolutely no sense of humor. The contrast in personalities makes the wit of the main character stand out that much more.
That certainly suggests one reason you like Ben Aaronovitch's Peter Grant books! :)
