Derek That makes sense. That is the kind of character I love to read as well, Miles being the obvious example but with some of your other characters, such as Ivan, also standing out in their own way. It is also a lot of fun when a character like that meets someone so polar opposite of them that they can't help but poke fun, such as when Jim Butcher's Dresden meets up with Hendricks, a hired thug with lots of muscle, few brains, and absolutely no sense of humor. The contrast in personalities makes the wit of the main character stand out that much more.
