Your answer scares the hell outta me, and I completely agree. As far as The Handmaid's Tale is concerned, why aren't women seeing what's right in front of their noses? Why aren't women taking to the streets to fight the GOP? I don't understand. Is it just a case of ignorance is bliss? What do you think? Maybe when it's broadcast on TV women, and men, will take it as a (now extremely) cautionary tale. It was a deadly warning when you wrote the book.
I have to agree with Ms. Atwood's comment to this thread. I saw the movie before I read the book and even though I do not condone book banning and censorship I found the subject so horrifying and scary that I wanted to rip the tape out and burn it. I read the book a short time later and was still horrified and scared, but I didn't burn the book. Fast forward thirty years and I am really scared with the road the US is going down. I keep telling people to read the book. I hope the TV show will expose more people to the possibility of what could happen if we continue down this road and get them to read the book. Maybe their eyes will finally open.
