Eleonora Voltolina "how much of yourself you are willing to surrender to the page, to the reader". I love this line. How true.

Deborah Taylor-French Could be both for me as a writer. After writing for 30+ years, I began writing for readers. In my Dog Leader Mysteries fiction, I pack in adventure, unique villains, and plenty of real dogs. But at no time do I kill any dogs. For the vulnerability, I write as moved by characters who fall (often literaly) into ravines, get foot damaged from climbing wood shake roofs, and climb trees to spy on others. It feels crazy but my characters seem far better at handing out damage than I am.
