Laura Thank you for the insight to your writing process during that period. It makes much more sense and I can see how productive it would be compared to spending hours juggling the method of "wrestling for inspiration" on a screen and chasing kiddos around! This is very encouraging insight to the challenges and methods of writing from home. Not for the faint of heart :)

Jean Lamb The answer to juggling a day job and writing is...lunch hours. Though I'm sometimes so tired I just websurf when I should be writing, I do make headway. Fortunately, the children are grown, which helps!

Kat Oh my, thank you for this. The whole how-to-juggle-all-the-things question is very pertinent to me right now (trying to launch a writing career, having kids, also a freelance artist). Also, Ms Bujold, you are an inspiration to me!

Marti Dolata I just reread this and was struck once again by your gift of the evocative phrase. Saying, "mining the couch cushions for milk money" is so much more effective AND affective than just saying you were short of money. THAT is why you're one of my favorite authors.
