I think my favorite is when Cordelia "narrates" Aral's discussion with Kou about Dru joining the practice fights. The first few reads I just thought it was for the humor then realized it was a way to make the scene still be Cordelia's POV even though she's sort of not in it. Pretty brilliant.
@ Talli -- Yep, one learns all sorts of narrative tricks for smuggling information past the limitations of single-viewpoint.

I have a little Vorkosigan Saga reading group, and we've been discussing this topic. Some of my buddies are convinced than an Elena retelling of The Warrior's Apprentice would be a straight-up romance novel, but I completely disagree. I think it would be a first-rate coming of age story. Aside from falling for Baz, Elena also goes off planet for the first time, observes Miles go wild building his house of cards, experiences combat, learns the truth about her parents, and witnesses her father's death. She has to grapple with her fear/self-hatred/self-disgust over what she may have inherited from her monster of a father. I'd really like to know how she rectifies this with her decision to follow in his footsteps and become a soldier. Throughout the story, her respect for Barrayar rapidly erodes, and she purposefully sheds her Barrayaran heritage. And yet...here too becoming a soldier seems like an incredibly Barrayaran thing to do. Argh, now I really want to read this story. Wish you would write it...
