I've been thinking about this since you posted it - the costs of making choices that are "what others want/like" versus what you want to do. Obviously there's the common good sort of thing where it makes sense to think of others (tidying the kitchen versus going to read in the bath) ... but what about when you set aside something important to you, does it set a precedent and become a trap? This answer generalizes to more than just writing, I think. Hmmmmm .....
