I had originally planned to court a legacy publisher for my first novel "Night Driver" but the more I read up on their requirements and the chances of them taking up a first time author (about the same as winning the lottery) I decided to go it alone. I'm shocked that you've found that they don't do marketing, editing, cover design and such. What's the point if they're not going to take care of those necessary details? I'll have to check into that further. My plan is to pursue legacy publishers for my next novel, using my first, self-published one as a selling point. I really struggle with the marketing thing and would prefer to have a traditional publisher provide the muscle in that arena.
