Jerri Happy Winterfair wishes to Lois and all who read her works. I am assuming that Winterfair takes place on and around the Winter Solstice, which is today, as I type this, on Old Earth. And Penric, Des and the rest in the world of the Five Gods should be celebrating Father's MidWinter?

Lois Bujold Winter solstice is Father's Day proper, the launch of His season. The mid-season holidays are halfway through each quarter, so Father's Midwinter would fall roughly on Groundhog Day, six weeks from each end point. (Hence the joke about if the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter.) You all can do the arithmetic to locate the mid-holidays for the rest of the holy crew. Not that 5GW day length or year length must exactly match ours.

Ta, L.
