I just came across this old question, and it makes me smile. The Vorkosigan series created so many characters that it became a bit difficult to remember who all of them were and how they related to each other. And by now the Penric series has also created quite a lot of characters, although not all of them hang around. Penric's travels are quite useful here. We may wonder what happened to the people he met in Lodi, but he doesn't live in Lodi any more, so he doesn't see them, and you don't feel you have to mention them.
