It doesn't guys,I'm not sure how to send a friend request to an author. Maybe only authors can send request to others?
If someone wants to be your friend, they must go to their friend icon, click it, go to the "search for friends box," enter your name, and then a button will pop up allowing him/her to friend you. Otherwise, as an author, you're untouchable.

Ah, you are welcome! I JUST discovered this last night when I found out I was not friends with someone friendly on GR who was an author... and I had a heck of a time figuring the dumb thing out. So glad I can spread my knowledge to others!!!!
