Ben Zabulis That's so true ! I scribble (well, type !) anything down to start with, it doesn't even make sence but I make sure that I mention everthing I want to. After that I massage it in to shape. A bit like an artist, start with a sketch, then add detailand colour !!

Sally Agree absolutely! This helps me work my way through tough scenes that I don't know how to write. Also, writing everything down - stream-of-consciousness, brainstorming style - means that I won't lose any gems buried in the junk. Plenty of time afterward to sift the wheat from the chaff.

Carol Absolutely! A couple of ways I've heard it:
"You've got to write badly to write well."
"Writing is rewriting."

Cary J. Green I agree completely. In fact, I sometimes allow more than one terrible draft. I have found that as I keep plugging away, the right words will show up eventually.
