Fortunately I don’t need to worry about this, as I’ve learned to love e-books, and no longer buy paper books. But it’s rather fascinating how fiction consumers have now divided the market: some prefer paper books, some e-books, some audio books.
I like the convenience of e-books, but for my permanent collection I also like to have a paper copy. Basically, it's a trust issue.
Margaret: That’s a valid point, and I’m conscious of it. E-books, especially Kindle books, are dependent on technology: if the technology stops working for any reason, you no longer have the books. I suppose that’s why I haven’t yet thrown away my old paper books. However, I no longer buy new paper books: partly because I haven’t room for them in the house, and partly because a scenario in which the Kindle system stops working and books also cease to be available in any other form seems excessively pessimistic.
