My headcanon on this is based on the scene in Paladin of Souls where dy Cabon describes how a dying person with strong will can take a demon with them on their way out, and the description of how the Great Souled Man freely shared his soul with a demon ... anyway, it's my headcanon that, when Pen dies, Des can choose to stay entwined with Pen's soul as he crosses into the Astral Plane [sorry for corny phrasing], and that the Gods allow and approve of this because the soul-stuff is love and the demon-stuff is chaos, not anti-love. I think he would give some of his soul-stuff so that she would be able to have a soul of her own, if that makes sense? A demon is surely more than the sum of the 14 imprints, is it not? So, anyway, if death could be considered a "happily ever after" in my head she's gonna have one.
