I am a 24-year-old writer and I took to journalism to have a career to sustain my writing. But the thing with journalism is: you thrive more when you have a niche. I've been numb for awhile and I recall in Eat Pray Love that there were moments in your life where you desperately wanted to feel something. How does one discover their interests? Please how did you discover yours?
Keep going, one foot in front of the other. For where there is darkness there is also light. And you are given no challenge that you cannot handle, and I have found, as well, that for every bad time, a wonderful time followed. So wait for it. It's coming.
Wow, beautiful answers!!:) Irene, if I may interject? I think you just need to take it one day at a time, live within each moment, and go out and have fun. Experiment!! Take an art class, join a book club, etc... You will never know where your passions are if you don't live (as opposed to merely existing,) a life of self-discovery. I hope this helps you.
Dear Elizabeth, Such good advice!
Rhonda you are loved more you you can understand. I am sending you love too! Start small and take care of Rhonda as if she was a little girl. Bring her flowers and just look at each petal. Take your time and just breath slowly. With much love Denise
Loved your response Elizabeth. I spent 30 yrs married and raising kids. Now the kids AND husband all grew up and moved away. Not sure who I am without them. Your response above is so simple yet brilliant. I never took care of me. I am starting tomorrow! To the person who asked the question....you WILL make it through this. Baby steps.
For me, it was the cold floor in front of my closet, so confused I couldn’t even decide what to wear. Like Ms. Gilbert advised, I actively loved myself. I started with simply hugging and rocking myself. Literally. I posted my own statement, “I don’t know where my life is going, but won’t it be interesting to find out.” It was, and 28 years later I’m in a wonderful place I couldn’t even imagine while lying on that cold floor. One day, one hour, one minute at a time, and know you are worth having good stuff in your life.
