So intriguing: "that it is difficult to find a women's story in literary history that does not involve male rescue or male ruin." I have not considered that before. Kind of wish you were wrong about it but suspect you are not. :) I so appreciated that Alma Whitaker's path and life were not truncated by the way her relationship played out and did not play out.
