I'd say go ahead, polish up that trilogy, and send it in to be published. Alternate-Earth fantasy is a legitimate genre and doesn't need magic or dragons to make it attractive to readers. Personally, I'd eat that sucker up! And I'm sure there are plenty more out there that would do the same. (And I've done the same myself as far as writing an alternate Earth history; I have a thing for creating genealogies, complete with incest, murder, conspiracies, alliances, etc. I love names and the potential stories living behind them--it's great fun!) BTW, first time to your question line here, but I've read all four Empress of Rome novels and adore them. In fact, I kind of hate you because they are so well-written, they make me want to eat my keyboard. :)
*eat my keyboard* -- I am so stealing that phrase when I read the next Elizabeth Loupas or Stephanie Thornton.
Not sure if I'd ever try to pub that semi-Russian trilogy; it's so rough it would take more work than it's probably worth!
(Sorry for delayed response; GR does not tell me when I get comments to questions.)
Have at it and welcome. Just remember the genius from which it sprang. (Hardy-har-har-har.)
I understand. You could always make it your retirement project, something to putter around with in your golden years when you've been given up as a spent force. And then, voila! You surprise the world with a massive new work, a la Tolkien. And put all them whippersnappers in their place.
(No prob. GR can be bad about that, not to mention I'd imagine you're quite a busy person. For some reason. Although I was slightly paranoid for a while, wondering if my obviously teasing comment about hating you for your writing ability came off as too aggressive. It's hard when you're naturally sarcastic--there's no sarcasm font to help with any potential digital faux pas.)
