Rebecca Lloyd I think that you have to re-construct some of the storyline by the sounds of it, so rather than do anything else to the ms, if you haven't done this already, start really trying to think your way into your character and become even more familiar with him or her and go through a series of 'what if' thoughts ... what if instead of this happening, a different thing happens. It does sound as you need to keep it, but just because you're not working on the ms physically, doesn't mean you're not working on the book itself if you try to work out a different storyline in your head. It's not an easy thing to write a whole first person novel, but entirely possible if the story is strong enough, White Tiger comes to mind.

Rebecca Lloyd so just to answer your last question, plan to change things, but do it in your head or on paper first before you open the ms file again. Also you have to be able to pinpoint where it begins to what 'sag' is it? or become a cliche?

Rebecca Lloyd I have to refuse such a thing outright, yes. I am occasionally under special circumstances happy to review published books, otherwise I need to use my work time to keep up with my own work. Sorry.
