Erin I often recommend The Savage Fortress by Sarwat Chadda to kids who like your books! It's based on Indian mythology & written by a British author of Indian heritage.

message 2: by Rishabh (new)

Rishabh Singh The Savage Fortress is complete junk and has no similarity with Indian mythology except the names of a few gods and demons, and even their attributes are wrongly presented.

message 3: by Almodine (new)

Almodine Do you have any better suggestions?

message 4: by Princess Dil (new)

Princess Dil I think you should take a sabbatical to India to see if that inspires you.

message 5: by Harper (new)

Harper I have gotten into mythology because of your books!!! I love them!

message 6: by Indiana (new)

Indiana Cool!

message 7: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Venegas Dear Rick Riordan,
I am a big fan and have read evry one of you books relating to percy Jackson. I was wondering what inspired you write and why.

message 8: by Tamanna (new)

Tamanna I think its best not to get into Hindu mythology, although I am Hindu and love Hindu mythology, its very different from Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse. The Hindu religion is still very much alive and one wrong word and there'll be an angry mob waiting outside your house or worse, on the internet.

message 9: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Florez ^^ Good point Tamanna, while you still might find the occasional follower of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse religions (my brother knew a couple who believed in Norse gods), Hinduism is huge. Same reason it would be kind of weird to write about Jesus and the angels, or Moses and other prophets, or Allah having children with/possessing normal 21st-century people.

message 10: by Nupur (new)

Nupur yeah.. I agree with Tamanna..Indian mythology is way too complicated and its quite different than other mythologies...

message 11: by Kirthi (new)

Kirthi Kishore Excellent point, Tamanna. People following Hinduism are very sensitive when it comes to Gods. But, that doesn't mean it can't be done. The approach to Hindu mythology has to be different from the other mythologies. I don't think Hindu Gods with a modern attitude works like it has with Percy Jackson.

message 12: by Sanjhana (new)

Sanjhana Yeahhh! Tamanna, your absolutely right!! These Hindu people can do anything to anyone who disrespects their religion....they are so blinded that they can't see anything before their religion

message 13: by Rishabh (new)

Rishabh Singh Sorry Tamanna but i don't agree with your point. As i stated earlier The Savage Fortress Series is complete trash on hindu mythology, so are books like those from The Tiger Saga and Thundergod,& The bestseller Shiva Trilogy was a completely new story using popular gods from Hindu mytholgy and humanizing them, and who knows how many other books have been published making fun of Hindu culture and myths but i don't see any mob on the authors' doorsteps instead people actually take it lightly and enjoy them for what they are i.e. a story, as is evidenced by the popularity of The Shiva Trilogy in India.

message 14: by Yasser (new)

Yasser Pundaodaya There's a a modern Indian mythology out there... Ash Mistry series. :)

message 15: by Rishabh (new)

Rishabh Singh Ash Mistry is The Savage Fortress Series and as i keep repeating it is rubbish.

message 16: by Mehak (new)

Mehak Garg I so agree with you Rishab, calling hindu people as "These hindu people" just because it is still very much alive is seriously quite ill!

message 17: by Richa (new)

Richa Read The Shiva Trilogy. So far the best Indian Mythology I have ever read. His writing concept is a tiny bit like Rick Riordan's! You would love it!

message 18: by Rupshali (new)

Rupshali Thank you Uncle Rick for answering my q. Can't wait for the new books. AAAAHHH I'm so excited

message 19: by Apoorva (new)

Apoorva if anyone of u read japanese comics there is a manga- kubera it is a story based on hindu mytho in a very unique and subtle way. while it doesnt go into the aspect of different stories much but is greatly connected to the powers and duties many major and minor gods represent in hindu mytho

message 20: by Apoorva (new)

Apoorva also the hindu mytho has a big 3 of it own vishnu, brahma and shiva and its own share of demons or " ashuras "

message 23: by Caroline (new)

Caroline P What other projects?

message 24: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn If you have time you should write something about piper finding out that she is a Native American demigod descendent

message 25: by Anaaya (new)

Anaaya Parikh Tamanna, you are so right. Even though we would all like books in Hindu mythology, it’s just not possible. I also agree with you, Richa. I have tried out the Shiva triology and it is absolutely amazing. If you liked Percy Jackson, I bet you’ll love it.
