Thank You, I so agree
It's hard to find any good books that don't have curse words in them. That does not make them bad, it just makes me realistic in my opinion. I don't like the words but will read the book and hope it is believable and does not sound fake..
I like the fact that you and many other of my favorite authors write dialog that is true to their characters. As you know the more these people ring true, the more we become involved in the "reality" of their lives. That's why Virgin River, Thunder Point, etc are places I want to visit over and over again.
I think the word is overused, in movies and now in books, it has become just like using the word "Cool" but it is vulgar and not in my choice of reading material, more and more I find it, more and more I avoid the authors that do it and leave movies where it is overused. Writers need to be REAL but they also need to be conscious of there readers.
I think that an author who creates great characters that fit the story IS being conscious of their readers.
As a reader, I want to read realistic dialogue and I appreciate that Ms. Carr strives to deliver that.
It's sad when someone complains about curse words. Really? Curse words are one of the easiest ways to get a point across. If you can't stand curse words should you really be reading fiction or non fiction for that matter?
Ive read every book in Thunder Point and did not feel the language was in any way offensive. I also felt that for a "romance" kind of book the sex was written in very good taste- why is some one who is sensitive about bad language reading a romance type book? The "sex talk" in many romance books would knock her socks off.
I don't like swearing but I totally agree with your comments. I dislike reading books when all the characters swear most of the time. I've just read my first book, "The Life She Wants" and can't wait to read more of your books.
Personally, I use the F word many times per day so it does not bother me in books. Adds to the book sometimes!
I can not agree more I am more turn off on a book that uses curse words I am so glad Robyn Carr that you do not use curse words in your books.
Telling someone how to write is RUDE. Just avoid writers who swear if it bothers you instead of trying censor or expect an author to try and answer for all. Some people swear in real life and in fiction-get over it. If the story is good I don't care if there is swearing or not. If the story is bad then I won't finish reading it regardless of any swearing.

Janet: I'm male. I read a lot of fiction, from Amish theme and romances to space opera and erotic. The "f" word is not in my personal vocabulary but it is used in society up to the highest classes. I cannot remember ever reading a Robyn Carr book where any vulgar word was used that wasn't spot on appropriate for the character and situation. She doesn't write gratuitous sex scenes either.

Note to any latecomers-Public library has very old books written when censorship ruled and no offensive language or love scenes will be found. Also, classics from the decades/centuries are f-word free. My Antonia, Jane Austen, Gone With the Wind are a few.
