Leah Dearest Elizabeth,
Oh my, talk about timing! I somehow didn't see this response from you until just now, but it couldn't have arrived at a more appropriate moment. I am about to start a graduate program in Creative Writing and your suggestions about how to quiet the "who the hell do you think you are voice" are fantastic. They tie in with the thinking around NOT necessarily believing your thoughts, and remembering that you, essentially, are allowed to run the show...It's a power trip in the best possible way. I must mention that after reading Big Magic I reconsidered the decision to go to grad school, and though I ultimately decided to go forward and get an MFA, I really appreciated the opportunity and space to look more critically at my choice, and absolutely understand the points you made on the subject. We don't need an MFA to write. We really don't. But I am excited beyond all adjectives to start on this adventure at the ripe old age of 53, and to be super duper honest am looking forward to a few hairy deadlines. They get my motor running. I also need some dedicated mentors to help me zone in on my frequently elusive "thing".
So, a million thanks for being out there, for being available, for doing your thing so bravely, for sharing your guts, your heart and your soul with us. You are a wonder. Talk about Daring Greatly! (yes - I am a Brene fan too...!)
With deepest respect and appreciation...
Leah
